'Our genocide' ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMyyV...
Canada’s opposition party has asked the government to clarify whether the Belfast rap trio Kneecap have been barred from the country, after doubts emerged over their status.

The Liberal MP Vince Gasparro, the parliamentary secretary for combating crime, posted a video on social media on 19 September in which he said Kneecap were “ineligible” to enter Canada.

Gasparro alleged that the band glorified “terrorist organisations” and that they “amplified political violence and publicly displayed support for terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas”. He said he was making the video on “behalf of the government of Canada” and acting on official advice.

The band, comprising Naoise Ó Cairealláin, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh and JJ Ó Dochartaigh, say they have never supported Hamas or Hezbollah and would not incite violence against any individual. In an online statement addressing the MP, the band said: “Your comments about us are wholly untrue and deeply malicious. We will not accept it.”

Resisting Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t31x6...
An Alabama construction worker and US citizen who says he was detained twice by immigration agents within just a few weeks has filed a lawsuit in federal court demanding an end to Trump administration workplace raids targeting industries with large immigrant workforces.

The class-action lawsuit, filed on Tuesday by Leo Garcia Venegas, a concrete worker, demands an end to what the firm calls “unconstitutional and illegal immigration enforcement tactics”.

Childcare in the broken: is the UK failing its future? ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB8NB...
Cybercriminals who stole pictures and the private information of thousands of nursery children have deleted the data.

A gang calling themselves Radiant have removed details of children at the UK-based Kido nursery chain from a website it had set up to extort victims.

A cybersecurity source confirmed to the Guardian that profiles of children had been removed from the site, which has been reformatted.

A screenshot of the site, seen by the Guardian, no longer displays children’s profiles from the hack. It now displays a Kido logo with “view more” underneath it, but a cybersecurity source said the link did not work – implying that the data has been removed.

Are French protesters more effective? ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPBI6...
French trade unions are leading a day of strikes as they try to maintain pressure on the new prime minister, Sébastien Lecornu, to rethink budget cuts and consider a form of wealth tax on the super-rich.

Lecornu has still not formed a new government after being appointed on 9 September amid a political crisis when his predecessor, François Bayrou, was dramatically ousted over proposed budget cuts. Lecornu’s unprecedented delay in announcing a new cabinet has angered opposition parties and trade unions, who have voiced concerns over budget cuts and protecting public services.

Between 500,000 and 1 million demonstrators took part in a nationwide strike on 18 September in trade union-led protests over taxes and social justice, according to figures from police and trade unions. But the strike on Thursday, which will involve about 240 marches in towns and cities, is expected to be slightly smaller with less disruption to transport and schools. About 70,000 police and gendarmes have been mobilised across France.

New documentary on ‪@theGuardian‬ – When the war breaks out in Ukraine, Alisa is thrown into a life she wasn't expecting. Working as a translator for foreign journalists she meets British war photographer Anastasia, who chooses not to rush towards the front, instead observing quiet moments of everyday resilience - birthdays, picnics, weddings.

A unique friendship forms as the two women strive to collapse the emotional distance between “us” and “them”. Their bond deepens as war wounds them both —transforming this into a poetic meditation on closeness, distance, and what happens when war stops being a story about others.
