A day in the life of a College Professor on the REAL!

So, after class I decided to record my real straight up thoughts on how things went for better or for worse. It's just me in my car, talking through the current state of the Modern Day Learner.

Challenges Faced by a Professor with Modern-Day Learners: The content discusses the challenges a professor, Professor Ron, faces in his college classes with modern-day learners. Key issues include students not taking notes, not preparing for classes by doing assigned readings or watching videos, and being distracted by their phones and other devices during class. The professor experiments with active learning techniques, such as flipped classroom models and varied assignments, to try to engage students more. However, he still struggles with getting students to participate and take the class seriously. The professor emphasizes the importance of note-taking, preparation, and active engagement for students to succeed, while also acknowledging the need for professors to be creative, empathetic, and adaptable in their teaching approaches.

The Hidden Power of Music in Films

Music in Movies; how do they do it and why are we so captivated that we just can’t stop watching! To answer this, we have to take a look at Squid Game, a series on Netflix. Let’s get into it!

I remember watching this and getting so excited by the music, I started taking notes on all of the Classical Songs. While the list readily available now, when it first came out, that wasn’t a huge hype and talk of the town, but over time this has garnered some serious attention! The idea with musical selections in Squid Game was to keep you watching no matter how scary or gory it was. The certainly succeed there! Now, I must say I had to turn my head a few times, but the musical selections from Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and so many more– Wow! Incredible!

One of the best kept secrets in Hollywood Movies is the use of melody & harmony layers. In Classical terms we call this “Textures in Music” or “Musical Texture”.

Start with WHY: How Great Teachers Inspire Action

So, I started thinking about what makes teaching so great and it dawned on me: When Students get excited about their learning in the class. One of the things I have been working on for a few years and will continue to do so, is how to make the content I enjoy teaching so much more engaging to students with the hopes of a transfer value to other courses. No matter how good my content is or should I say, no matter how good I think it is, or how animated I relay that information in a course, the quest is always the same – Connection through Engagement leads to course content excitement and is followed by a transfer value to other classes, courses, paths, and careers!

Thanks for watching! I do hope you had a good time!

5 Signs You're Turning into a Cell Phone Zombie

Society has fallen. What led to our demise? What happened? As I look back, I recall being at a football game. There are thousands of people, and the fans are going wild. Oh wait, but they are not going wild.

I look around and people are on their cell phones. Sports used to be such an amazing experience for all to enjoy, but instead it’s just another place to play with your pocket computer!

Thanks for watching! I do hope you had a good time!

Imagine -- a world without music; Think about that for a moment! Could we live without music? Could you live without music? For humans to survive, we need food, water, air, and shelter. Of course, we can’t forget about sleep and clothes! We do want to look snazzy and always be well rested! While we do not need music to survive, would we be whole without it?

Music is ubiquitous – All around us – All the Time.

When you walk into HEB, you might hear music. If you go to Starbucks, there might be music playing outside in the patio area. When you go out to eat dinner at a restaurant, sometimes there is light music playing in the background over the speakers, albeit ever so distant in some places. There are also restaurants that have live music – Wow, isn’t that awesome!

When we watch movies, sitcoms and commercials, there is music! When we drive in our cars, we are listening to music, podcasts, news, etc.…

If the movie Jaws did not have the music of John Williams, would it be as compelling, convincing or dare I say, “As Scary”? I suppose for anyone that may be afraid of sharks, the music pushes it over the top. What about the Harry Potter Movies without the music? Or, for that matter, insert your own favorite movie or show and imagine for a moment, there is no music! I think you get the idea. Music plays a huge role in everyday life.

Some people work with music in the background. Students will listen to music while they are studying, and our surgeons might very well be listening to music as the operate to calm the nerves or simply just to focus on the task at hand!

Rap God by Eminem

Uh, summa-lumma, dooma-lumma, you assumin' I'm a human
What I gotta do to get it through to you I'm superhuman?
Innovative and I'm made of rubber so that anything
You say is ricochetin' off of me, and it'll glue to you and
I'm devastating, more than ever demonstrating
How to give a --------------------------audience a feeling like it's levitating
Never fading, and I know the haters are forever waiting
For the day that they can say I fell off, they'll be celebrating
'Cause I know the way to get 'em motivated
I make elevating music, you make elevator music
"Oh, he's too mainstream"
