With a few small keyhole incisions, complex endometriosis surgeries can be achieved. However, make sure that your surgeon is experienced and an expert. Endo surgery is technically challenging & extensive training is required to achieve an optimal excision of the disease. Endometriosis surgeries are more complex than neurosurgeries. So, choose wisely!

This is a reminder to everyone out there suffering from Endometriosis! Laparoscopic Excision Surgery remains the only to treat Endometriosis and end all the pain and suffering that you go through every day of your life.
But at the same time, it is also important to remember, that ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.
Every individual's symptoms are different and how we treat it is different, so talk to the experts and know the best route to take, you may not need surgery if your disease is mild and asymptomatic, non-progressive and not affecting any organ function but proper interval monitoring with experts is mandatory.
On that note, I would like to wish all the doctors a very happy doctor's day! We’re making people’s lives better; a very noble deed that we get to do every day. Be proud of making an impact!

Right from the symptoms, endometriosis attacks everyone differently. The medical condition is symptomatic to some and asymptomatic to others. There is no quick fix or relief treatment that can be prescribed that would get rid of the condition. There is no one size fits all. Laparoscopy remains the gold standard for the diagnosis & treatment of endometriosis. The advantage of laparoscopy or robotic surgery is that your diagnosis can be confirmed and treated at the same time. When endometriosis is found during laparoscopy, a sample will usually be removed for examination under the microscope. This will confirm the diagnosis. Spots of endometriosis through the pelvis can be removed surgically via excision. Laparoscopic surgeries also have a lesser chance of recurrence when complete excision is performed.

Here’s something I tell all my patients. Whenever the symptoms flare up, take note of the time, date, intervals, after food, post-coital, or any other reasons that you suspect! These notes can give the doctor a clear picture and avoid misdiagnosing the medical condition. Often we can gauge the severity of the problem and prescribe necessary tests for an early and easy diagnosis. The nuances of endo might not be obvious to all, but anything that can help in pointing us toward the disease should be written down!
What to track?
• Bleeding patterns (like spotting)
• Pain
• Menstrual heaviness
• Fatigue
• Bloating/diarrhea
• Constipation

Endometriosis can also involve the kidneys. The primary involvement of the kidneys is extremely rare—and it is often secondary to ureteric endometriosis. A study from 2012 estimated that out of 100,000 people with ureteral endo, 25-50 percent would have lost kidney function, and an unknown number will then have lost their kidneys.
Endometriosis of the kidney is a little difficult to differentiate from other masses on imaging and is often misdiagnosed as renal tumors or kidney cancer. Often patients are subjected to nephrectomy where partial nephrectomy can help them completely excise the disease.
So, why the delay in diagnosis? As the kidney does not have sensory nerves that can present as pain, endo is detected when the disease is already advanced. Patients may report abdominal pain, flank pain, or soreness in the lower back. Heightened awareness and early detection can save kidneys. Often these patients report to nephrologists and they can be misdiagnosed as other renal tumors.

Endometriosis needs to be viewed as a whole-body, multisystem, inflammatory disease. It had been found in many areas of the body. But it is often seen as a reproductive disorder, associated exclusively with the reproductive system. For an effective diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis in other parts of the body often a follow-up by multidisciplinary experts is needed, which might not happen if endometriosis continues to be associated with the reproductive system alone.

We do not know the exact cause of endometriosis yet. However, hereditary lineage appears to be part of the risk factors that are associated with endometriosis. The condition often affects members of the same family such as sisters, mothers, and grandmothers. In fact, studies have shown people with cousins who have conditions are also at increased risk. Endometriosis can be inherited through the maternal or paternal family line.
What is the reason for upsurge of endometriosis cases ? Is it only hereditary or combined hereditary with environmental and dietary factors?
We need more research on this...
