A #dilemma of #causality:
When a specific cause has several possible outcomes, all with the same probabilities at a given moment, thereā€™s no reason to choose one outcome over the others. In other words, selecting an outcome becomes non-deterministic (the cause doesnā€™t lead to a single outcome) and random (all outcomes have equal chances of occurring). This dilemma often becomes clear in nuclear physics.
Note: Thereā€™s a mistake in the wording, saying that the choice is random; thereā€™s no randomness here because the options are limited.

#Analogical #reasoning is a logical approach that involves drawing conclusions or solving problems by making comparisons between similar situations or entities. This kind of reasoning operates on the premise that if two things share some similarities, they are likely to share other traits as well. It's commonly used in everyday #decision_making, scientific research, legal arguments, and educational contexts.

Take an example from #legal reasoning:
- Identifying the analogy: The lawyer argues that the current case (Case B) is similar to a previous case (Case A).
- Identifying relevant similarities: In both instances, the defendants are accused of breaching a contract under similar circumstances.
- Conclusions drawn: The lawyer concludes that since the court ruled in favor of the plaintiff in Case A, it should also rule in favor of the plaintiff in Case B.
- Assessing the analogy: The strength of this analogy depends on how closely the circumstances of Case B match those of Case A, including specific details and applicable legal principles.
