John Tame, survived freezing conditions after becoming lost in Nelson's Kahurangi National Park, but it was the activating of his Personal Locator (PLB) that saved his life. This story by Sunday TVNZ shows how a few steps at home can make all the difference to a person's experience in the bush.
Watch the Sunday clip as it shares John's incredible tale on the TVNZ Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ6SV...
We made our new planning app, Plan My Walk, to assist trampers with their trip planning. You can create a solid plan and check the forecast, as well as tick off a suggested gear list and let a trusted contact know your plans.
It's easy to make a plan that can save your life. Find out more at planmywalk.nz

As well as filming our Tramping Video Series Two... we've been busy building a cool new app which is Live today - WOO! We thought those who liked our videos will find this tool pretty handy for their next NZ adventure.
'Plan My Walk' is a free app we have made for people tramping in New Zealand. It has 1000+ NZ tracks, weather warnings, watches and forecasts, track specific alerts, interactive gear lists and other useful planning advice such as track reviews from other users. You can create a trip plan, add group members, assign an emergency contact, and share your plan with others. It’s planning made easy. Download the app or check out planmywalk.nz #MakeItHomeNZ

The Tramping Video Series Two Filming continues! Last week the MSC team explored a Canterbury favourite, Mt Somers. They ventured out with Quite Nice Films to capture a classic NZ tramp, the Mt Somers Track via Woolshed Creek Hut and Pinnacles Hut, and the Mt Somers Summit.
The footage gained during the week should cover the variety of options around Mt Somers to appeal to every level of tramper. It really is a pick your own adventure kind of destination! Only two more tracks to go in the series!
