A Thread...
As a Nigerian woman, l've lived a better part of my life looking up to the male figure for direction. First, my father, and then the men l've been in relationships with.
The Nigerian culture places the men above us and so we look up to them for directions, financial supports (even if we have our own), counsel and sometimes we even hinge our happiness and comfort on them.
I was okay with this pattern as it's all l'd ever known, infact, it was convenient until I married a FINN..
To be married to a Finn is to be an adult in every sense of the word. An adult who is able to take responsibility for her actions, able to understand what life requires of her, able to hold her own, to make the right decisions, to fund her lifestyle, to.... THINK FOR HERSELF!
So.... For the first few months, I felt lost and confused because, everytime I looked up to my dear husband, he looked back at me and would ask...WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE?
