STORIES FROM TYNE DOCK.
@thelibrarian46
22 hours ago
I dare say Grace has made Sid some corn beef sandwiches with Branston pickles and fully wrapped them up in greaseproof paper. Mrs Harrington recently took the children Christmas Shopping and they had to change trains at Tyne Dock. Jonathon was excited about getting a Mecano Set, and a fountain pen, and Susan needed a new pencil case. She will be taking the Eleven Plus next May, and like Jonathon will hopefully be able to attend grammar school. But according to the Daily Mail, let's hope let's hope those Teddy Boys, loitering about the station, and smoking woodbines, are not causing trouble. I am sure the Crewmen will welcome a rest hut. Perhaps Sid can offer them some of his sandwiches unless his dog has eaten them?

Thanks for this, Tony, incidentally your comment about the station being too short for a Nine coach rake... Well remembering back to when I was a kid in the 1950's - "The Cornishman" a crack GWR Wolverhampton to Penzance express used to call at Bilston Central just before 9am... Bilston station was not small but the loco (normally a Castle) and two or three of the coaches always over-ran the platform and I believe that the rear end of the train didn't reached the station - these were the days of fourteen or more coach trains.. The Cornishman didn't pull up twice as I believe that long trains did in some places. I'll always remember the site of the castle waiting on the bridge on the Birmingham side of Bilston station - it was truly a magnificent sight - gleaming green and gold in the morning sunlight... So do the same! Run your full nine-coach rake and let both end's over hang the platforms The GWR and British Railways did this so there's no reason why you shouldn't!

Yeah, I remember not hearing the "last four coaches for Whitchurch" and having to jump down onto the ballast on the embankment and trudge embarrassingly, dragging a huge suitcase back to the platform on the way back to boarding school once, past the scowling station master. Some trains from Crewe were just way too long for the old Whitchurch Cambrian Railways built platforms.

Love the canopy build. Your videos remind of my scratch build days on my model railway 50 years ago. I don't have the layout anymore. But I still have most of the buildings. Like you I scratch build all my interiors. And they still look good after 45-50 years. Thanks for bringing back those memories. Bill and Janet from California
