36 years ago on June 30, 1989: Did you see Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" then, or catch it later? Lee memorialized acting legends Ossie Davis (Da Mayor) and Ruby Dee (Mother Sister) on his studio in Brooklyn. Back in 1965, the young, married activists brought formerly enslaved Americans' stories and songs to public TV. Watch their amazing performances: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE1dX...

On April 15, 1945, the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen was liberated by British troops. Of the 53,000-plus survivors present then, 14,000 died by June due to the camp's inhumane abuses. Anne Frank, whose diary later became famous, had perished at the camp along with her sister Margot in late February, likely from typhus. The Anne Frank exhibit now at the @CenterforJewishHistoryNYC is the first of its kind in the U.S. On June 29, the series "Treasures of New York" will premiere an episode about the acclaimed institution, including its history and the many ways it’s dedicated to preserving the past.
