Forever Alone
What is Valentine's Day?
What is this day of love?
In the eyes of a child, it is a time for candy and for friends.
For those in love, it is a time to remember how much they mean to each other.
But for me, it is naught but a day of pain;
A day feeling and wondering if I am doomed to be
Forever alone.
So great is the anguish of my heart, I cannot feel physical pain.
I could walk bare-footed upon white-hot coals and feel no burn.
Red-hot blades could pierce my skin, and I would feel no reason to cry out.
How can one be in such great emotional pain that drowns out others, you ask me?
Quite simple: would you not feel this way
If it seemed one would think that fate had cursed you to be
Forever alone?
"And they lived happily ever after..."
The words seem to mock me
To pierce my heart and cut into my soul.
Where is my prince?
Where is the special one to give my heart to?
Or is there such a person for me?
It would seem there is not. I shall be
Forever alone.

Should it truly be so much to wish to hear such warm, tender words?
To wish to never feel torn apart?
Or must I simply "grow up", "get a life" or "suck it up"
And live with no choice but to endure being
Forever alone?
So on this day, this day of love,
I shiver, but even ten blankets would not warm me.
I lie out in the cold, the cold of loneliness and pain,
Lost, forgotten, abandoned...
Are there none who can see past whatever "ugly duckling" of me that holds one back
And find the beautiful swan?
