Dear Community,
Today marks 23 years since September 11th—a day etched in our collective memory where terrorism took a profound toll on our nation. The Rebbe frequently spoke about the root causes of terrorism and the proper ways to combat and prevent such evil from spreading. However, today we’d like to focus on a different aspect of the tragedy of 9/11: the deep pain experienced by so many families torn apart by terror and grief.
In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103, traveling from London to New York, was tragically brought down by Libyan terrorists. A year later, the parents of a young man who was killed in that attack came to the Rebbe seeking solace and guidance. The words of comfort and advice offered by the Rebbe to them might resonate with those who are still grappling with the impact of 9/11.

As the month of Elul begins, we enter a time of reflection and spiritual preparation for the High Holidays. Throughout Elul, we blow the shofar daily, give extra charity, and recite special Psalms. In the final days, we rise early to say Selichot, asking G‑d for forgiveness as we prepare for the new year.

On March 21 (3 Nissan, 5748), a couple visited the Rebbe, seeking guidance before their upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, and offered to carry a message from the Rebbe to the Prime Minister.

Today is the saddest day in the Jewish calendar, as Jews worldwide mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and the beginning of our long exile.
