I tried translating the lyrics of Souya Ichika’s new original song “Aoiro Tale” into English! I also posted this as a comment on the video but I wanted to post it here as well so it would be easier to find. Please take it with a grain of salt as I’m not very experienced at translating songs. The original Japanese lyrics can be found in the MV video description.

Soya's original MV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZnNj...

Title: Blue Tale

I wonder if I’ve been able to become your number one
WOW, I worry about that
I get saved by you constantly
WOW, I’m so good-for-nothing

Positive thinking is what I’m good for
But I feel like I’ll be overwhelmed by the blue feelings I get sometimes
At times like that, what I think back on is
The road you’ve always drawn

On a dark night, it’s okay to have felt lonely and hung your head down
I’m sure what’s important is to keep moving forward

It’s okay to be uncool!

“The trick to life is boldness, y’know”
“It’s not normal, this number of failure stories”
Even still, I love you

“Most things are no problem”
“It’s alright, our hearts will always be connected”
Be dyed in the perfectly clear blue
Look, all the way to your town

I didn’t understand at first
I hurt you all the time then, right?
I’m sure love is a super express
In other words (WANT YOU), accept it, okay?

It’s alright, it’s okay to have sulked in bed any time
I’m sure what’s important is to stand up to it

No matter how many tens of times!

‘It definitely won’t go well’
Even if there’s no magic or anything for avoiding regret
You taught me this

“The trick to life is boldness, y’know”
“It’s not normal, this number of failure stories”

Even still, I love you!

You changed everything about my life
For that abnormal number of memories

Thank you
I love you

“Most things are no problem”
“It’s alright, our hearts will always be connected”
Resound in the perfectly clear blue
Look, all the way to town with you

[Small translator’s note: The word I chose to translate to “town” is used for a town, town center, or street, and spelled with a kanji that is usually used to indicate a town center, main street, or numbered street. My interpretation was that this is meant to relate to the “road” mentioned earlier, since that word implies a journey to a destination, so the “town” (center) would act as a metaphorical destination for the “road” you’ve chosen to travel through life (but I could be way off).

Gushing:
I’ll be honest, I don’t usually like the kind of songs vtubers usually sing and make, but if anyone was going to make an exception to that, it’d be Soya. Not only is it super wholesome, but it’s aimed at her listeners, bless her heart. I definitely shed a few tears at the part where she looks you in the eyes.

Other discussion:
Hi all, it’s been, what, like half a year? Of course I haven’t been “dead,” I’m still active elsewhere, but clips are on pause for now. I do plan to make more at some point, so expect a clip or 2 around like the end of the year (hopefully), but for now, here’s a probably never to be repeated song translation because Soya’s song was so good it really made me want to TL it (plus this was very quick and easy to do compared to a clip). Hope you all enjoy the song as much as I did.

Since it’s been getting a lot more attention lately (mostly from youtube randomly deciding to dump it on people’s home pages), I’ve decided to update the subs on Akirose Celebrates Mother’s Day via CC to match the quality and accuracy of my more recent clips. It’s more than 2 years old now, and after I rewatched it the other day, I realized the subs were showing their age quite a bit. My Japanese is of course a lot better than it was 2+ years ago, and I also now have access to an archive of the chat for that stream, which helps with figuring out what she said in cases where she’s hard to hear, like due to talking over ASMR noises and such. The changes made include both more substantive errors (mostly just misheard words, thanks 2020 me’s listening comprehension) and small phrasing changes that don’t alter the meaning much if at all. This means the new subs will be on CC now, while the old subs will be blurred out to avoid confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience that may cause as well as for having made a bunch of silly mistakes in the first place.

Akirose ASMR clip series epilogue: Aki explains what happened to those streams

The following will be a translation of ~6 minutes of a stream of Aki’s on twitcasting from February 24th 2021, from ~16:00 to ~22:00, as well as some thoughts from me afterwards. I am choosing to translate this in text format instead of as a clip because I want to avoid making a negative/critical clip. TNs will be noted by a number in brackets and then written at the end. [0]
[0] Like this.

Original stream: twitcasting.tv/akirosenthal/movie/669131447
Aki’s youtube channel: youtube.com/@AkiRosenthal

[Translation starts here]

That was a time when I wasn’t pulling ‘comedian moves’ as much. I might have been pulling them, but… They’re watching because it’s funny, yeah. There’s a lot of people watching, so… How should I put it? No, I’m not playing innocent. [1] I’m not playing innocent. That, like… I did lots of streams like ASMR and stuff, so those kinds of, what, doubts, I didn’t have at the time. Yeah. Ah, this is the first time you were able to come to my livestream? Thank you! Pardon me, I’m in the bath. *Splash splash* But, yeah, my ‘funny’ side, I think there are people who started watching because of my funny side. The bath has warmed up. [Slaps the water] Boom. So, y’know, yeah, out of all sorts of people here, for the people who started watching because of my funny side, it’s like “hey hey hey!” “H-hey! Hey! Hey!” They’d get a bit like “hey hey hey!” I think that’s how they’d feel, and of course, there are also people who have been watching the whole time since I was doing lots of ASMR streams, and some of them look at the funny parts and stuff and go “that’s not it…” “That’s…” Their point of view is a little… Well, it’s like, after they’ve gotten to know all sorts of parts of me, am I going to go nyan-nyan again? [2] Like, what is it… The feeling of embarrassment has gotten larger than before, that time before. Yeah. That’s how it feels. When I weighed the feeling of wanting to do it and that feeling of embarrassment against each other, y’know? I get embarrassed, you know? No, the bath is fine, isn’t it? [3] No, no, whether it would be fine if I did it on my sub-channel isn’t really the issue, you know? [4] That sort of thing, that’s not it. No, what is it, this… Like, out of those who know me, y’know, more deeply… They know me… What is it… For example, then, if at school you had a good friend of the opposite sex – well, a friend of the same sex would be fine too, though – and what you always see of them is the way they are when they’re with friends like this, but then you accidentally witnessed, like, their behavior that they only want to show to the person they love. When that happens… When that happens, what would you do? That’s how it feels, I guess. Ah, that’s right, like how being overheard by a friend is embarrassing, that’s how it feels. That might be the closest thing. Like, you saw them fidgeting. Don’t you get the feeling you saw something you shouldn’t have? You don’t know why, but somehow you understand? But you understand, don’t you? I… I get embarrassed. Once you become aware you’ve gotten embarrassed once, then you’ll be embarrassed forever, you know? You might get secondhand embarrassment. Yeah, that’s right, with the Rosetai, I’m more, like, I show all sorts of parts of myself, I do all sorts of streams, that ‘sense of distance,’ y’know? [5] It’s actually BECAUSE you know about all sorts of parts of me that showing you that part has gotten, like, a bit embarrassing. Do you get it? Like… That’s how I’ve ended up feeling, you know? Once you get embarrassed once...

[Translation ends here]

Translator’s notes:
[1] Edit: This is actually an idiom that means to pretend to be innocent or ignorant of something that literally means to wear a cat on your head (like as a disguise). Perhaps comparable to the English phrase "wolf in sheep's clothing." Originally I thought she was referring to the Neko Maid stream since she talks about that both before and after this.
[2] Here I think she’s referring to the stream I clipped in “Neko Maid Aki’s Special Training,” which came up earlier.
[3] Those of you who wish to count the number of years since her last bath stream may end up concluding something different.
[4] Aki has a second youtube channel meant for streaming things she’s worried about being demonetized that she has never used.
[5] “Rosetai” is Aki’s name for her fans, with “Rose” from “Rosenthal” and “tai” meaning a company/unit/corps of troops in reference to the appearance of Rosetai as apples clad in knightly armor.

Discussion/my thoughts:
What she says here may come as a shock to some of you, but I think a few basic questions should have been asked first, such as: What is twitcasting, what has Aki used it for? Why does Aki have a 2nd channel that isn’t used? What do other vtubers use their 2nd channels for? Why did hololive girls stop streaming public ASMR on other sites at the same time as on youtube? Does paywalling a stream means it’s allowed to violate youtube’s terms of service? How are other vtubers, especially ones outside of hololive, affected by these youtube rules? Why would ASMR and chat streams be purged almost 3 years ago now and remain so because of copyright issues with a video game company? Etc. Even in this very stream, she is using twitcasting because she’s afraid that a bath stream might break youtube’s rules, and has streamed ASMR there many times before in the era when she was still doing it on youtube as well. Not a lot of people want to ask or attempt to answer these questions, but fortunately Aki herself answers them quite well here. And, despite everything, I must say I still very much respect her willingness to just speak about it honestly like this instead of hiding behind fake excuses. Lastly, let me run a quick fact check on one of her core points: To all those people who started watching Aki because of her funny side, what was your real reaction when I showed you that other side of her from her old ASMR? Did you really go “h-hey, hey, hey!” and think badly of her? Now, with this clip series done, that doesn’t have to be a hypothetical anymore, and, quite frankly, I’d be shocked if even one person like that had a genuinely negative reaction. With all that said, this has been a wild ride, but thank you all so much for watching and reading, and from now on, I’ll be waiting until Akirose feels like she wants to show that wonderful part of herself to the Rosetai again.

I plan on making more clips of old Akirose ASMR in the future and I know I'm going to get asked this question a lot so let me just explain how I've found the ones I've gathered: In the description of the clip I just published, I link Aki's tweet which contains the title and url of the original stream. If you plug the Japanese part of the title into google in quotes and look at videos, you should be able to find a large amount of them. I also got some by plugging the original URLs into the Wayback Machine. Unfortunately I don't know of any fancy tricks or secret stashes and my collection is far from complete, but I hope that helps.

I don't intend for this to become either an archiving channel or an Aki-dedicated channel, but I will continue to make clips from the old Aki streams I've found just like I would from any other streams I enjoy, and I'd be happy if they could help both encourage and satisfy interest in those kinds of streams.

Hello, this is my first time using the community tab so forgive me if I mess it up somehow. (I use youtube near exclusively on desktop.) I wanted to make this post to let you all know that several of my videos have been purged by false strikes (I adhered to any and all clipping guidelines and in fact was thanked for making them at the time) and that if you want to download them and their original descriptions (including TNs), you can do so via my twitter, which should be linked on my channel page. I will try to be more careful about the kinds of people I clip in the future.
