[EN] The history of North Africa is intricate and, in many ways, enigmatic. The media often presents this region as a monolithic expanse inhabited solely by Arab Muslims, a portrayal that fails to capture the rich linguistic diversity that characterizes this part of the continent. Over millennia, North Africa has been shaped by a multitude of peoples and cultures.
For the discerning traveler, this complexity becomes particularly apparent in the mountains, where a vibrant tapestry of languages and tribal affiliations emerges. In the Atlas Mountains, it is not uncommon to encounter individuals, both young and old, who are unfamiliar with Darija, the Moroccan dialect. This phenomenon undoubtedly extends to Kabylia as well. I was astonished to learn that many people in Ouarzazate and Tafraoute speak Tachelhit exclusively with their families. This revelation prompted me to delve deeper into a seemingly simple yet profoundly complex question: how did Arabic become the dominant language in this region?
Exploring this question is equally complex, with some aspects remaining speculative. However, it is clear that the Amazigh tribes played a significant role in this process, a fact that they often overlook today.
If you’re intrigued by this facet of North African history, I invite you to check out the latest video on the channel!

Have you ever wondered to what extent Chinese influenced the Japanese language?
Both languages do belong to two very different language families. However, they also share striking similarities.
I discuss the topic in my latest video!

Hello fellow language enthusiats!
I hope you're all well. I have just posted a new video on Arabic: 'Is Arabic a dead language'?
Most linguists regard MSA as a dead language because it has no native speaker. However, does this claim make sense?
