During my time working on The Distillery of Josh Waitzkin, I was surprised to uncover that most people quit at the conscious incompetence stage of learning.
Why is this?
Josh says:
They don’t do the work to truly understand deeply enough. People are too busy to put in required time and use the time requirement as an excuse to put in that level of commitment. It’s an embarrassing stage if your ego is tied up with it so suspending the ego is a critical component to getting past the Conscious Incompetence stage. You want to reach a level of Unconscious Competence where your subconscious is doing the work without you thinking - like tying your shoes or driving a car.
