Hazal Ocak graduated from İstanbul University’s Faculty of Communication in 2013. She started working as a correspondent at Cumhuriyet Daily in 2011. She officially started as an urban environment correspondent at Cumhuriyet Daily in 2014. She was in charge of Cumhuriyet daily’s environment page on Fridays. Hazal worked as an environment and city reporter for Gazete Duvar news site and wrote a column called the 'environment page'. Hazal is currently working as an environmental and city reporter on the HalkTV news site. She mostly focuses on human rights in urban areas, climate, environmental policy, and campaigns.
She worked as a guest journalist at Taz Daily for 2 months in 2016.She participated in the European Union’s Official
Visitor Program in 2019. She wrote the book “Ihanet” that displays all the illegal construction that’s violated Istanbul for unearned income. She received many awards for her news.She’s faced lawsuits for news stories that she based on documents and reporting.
