It is now officially seven years since the first episode of Xonic S released in 2016. My horrible baby's growing up! Reminder that you can still view every episode (including recent remasters of 1-5) here: odysee.com/@reputabledubbing:a

Gonna go back to Story Time With Sonic videos for a bit while I wait on my Sonic VA to be available to record additional episodes of Pirate Radio. This does mean I get to write more of the Xonic S personalities, so, win.

YouTube absolutely SLAUGHTERED Sonic Pirate Radio in the algorithm. Give it a watch on the channel if you haven't seen it yet. I'd prefer the thing I spent months on doesn't do way worse than the stuff I spent a week on if that. Thnx.

Episode incoming, bitches, unless something goes hideously wrong. Try not to scream too loudly. I really just need to watch the final upload one more time to check for errors and verify the subtitles are correct too. I do not want to. I have watched it so many damn times. Sonic is channeling my energy right now in the picture. Bring on episode 2, I say.

OK, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is due to circumstances beyond my control I am going to be using the temp music I had in the rough cuts and not getting any original tracks. The good news is that I can firmly promise you Sonic Pirate Radio episode 1 will release within the month. It's basically done, I just need to give it one final pass or two.

Hey, while we're waiting for some new content, you feel like rewatching Xonic S? Well over the past year and a half, in the background, I've been slowly working on remastered versions of episodes 1-5 (6 and 7 are more complicated to revisit because I had an assistant editor who added things to their own project file, so I don't have versions of those out).
I have IMMENSELY improved the quality of the sound mixing across the show, especially by using tools I didn't have access to before episode 5. Hearing the dialogue clearly in sound effect-heavy scenes should no longer be a problem. I've made general minor improvements throughout the episodes that are too numerous to list, but I feel like the improved sound mix is the biggest deal. I've also upgraded episode 1, which was produced in standard definition, to 720p like the rest of the show.
This also includes restoring an entire cold open to episode 4 that was cut from the YouTube version for various reasons. I don't think it works as the opening to a YouTube video in terms of grabbing attention, but as a piece of a TV episode it feels important.
I still really enjoy my work on Xonic S, and I wanted to produce a version that maintained the original vision without letting the limitations of my skills at the time compromise it. You can find the new versions of episodes 1-5, along with the original cuts of 6 and 7, only on my Odysee channel, because YouTube are bastards.

Update time: Yes, I know said May, yes, I know I said June, but I PROMISE Sonic Pirate Radio episode 1 is going to be out in July. I am now only waiting on the music by @treynobles, which I had expected to be done last month (no slight at him, I jumped the gun on announcing we'd be releasing in June. I just wanted to be out for Sonic's birthday). I cannot give an exact date but I think we are very close to getting a complete episode. I cannot see a situation in which I find myself writing this same post in August. I am not tempting fate by writing this. Fate is a little bitch boy and I'd like to see him try me. I will END him.
Music aside, the episode is otherwise essentially finished to the point where I could upload it now and it would read as a final product, but I am still doing lots of fine-tuning to things like volume leveling to make sure this thing sounds as good as it possibly can for an amateur production with mics of varying quality (although Tails, Knuckles and especially Sonic all sound great). I've gone over the volume leveling in this to a MUCH greater degree than I ever did while abridging, because (a) it's audio-only so you don't have visuals to carry you, and (b) I am so much better with sound mixing now than I ever was working on Xonic S (I need to get all my recent Xonic remasters on Odysee for posterity). Volume leveling the dialogue has become the lip-syncing of this project, in terms of being a simple but extensive editing job that covers the dialogue of the entire episode.
In the meantime, because I don't know any artists who are available in the time frame I need, I've been working on a thumbnail of Sonic being a cocky little shit over his stupid fake medal. The episode title is "Man of the Year?", but for YouTube algorithm convenience, the video title itself will dub the episode "Sonic STEALS the Master Emerald", and I wanted to reflect both of those in the thumbnail. The episode title is of course printed on a Sonic Adventure stage card.
Currently trying to figure out when we can record episode 2, and if I have my way 3 will be recorded while 2 is still in editing and not after it releases. I want to have 3 in editing when 2 comes out. I am really excited to write the script for 4, based on my outline in which Sonic exploits a local cryptid legend for fame and fortune, but I don't want to jump the gun considering I already wrote three episodes and am just finishing the first.

Good news, Sonic Pirate Radio Episode 1 "Man of the Year?" is very close to completion. The last thing I am waiting on are the music cues between scenes, which are being handled by @treynobles of Sonic and Tails R. In the meantime I will fine-tuning things like volume leveling and timing throughout the episode, and planning for the production of episodes 2 and 3 (which I have written). Bonus points for anyone who knows where "Man of the Year?" comes from originally, sans question mark.

I wish I hadn't said Sonic Pirate Radio Episode 1 would be out in May because I'm still trying to get the last of the dialogue recorded, namely filling in for someone I thought was available but wasn't. I can't imagine it not coming out in June though. I do have a bit over half the episode in a fairly complete state though.

Home of Sonic Pirate Radio. And formerly a couple super high-effort abridged series that got killed by YouTube.
