The Wii U servers shut down permanently today. Which means Splatoon 1 servers are gone forever. It has been a massive honor to have played so much of Splatoon 1, met many great people, and creating all these animations. I'm glad the servers didn't shut down during my absence, but it's very sad to see the game that made this channel possible get shut down. Farewell, Splatoon 1.

This screenshot is literally the very first piece of Splatoon related thing I've ever done in 2015, thank you, Nintendo.

I was really hoping to close and finish this project by today, but I need another week to work on this. It's hard to balance this and my job at the same time but I will deliver this animation to you sooon. For now, here's another work-in-progress frame of the next project.
I'm gonna test this Youtube scheduling feature... if it works this post should hopefully be up before I go to work, hopefully, I've never tried this feature before.

Hello, last poll I promise.
TL;DR
Prefer stylized hand/keyframe 3D animations or human-like motion capture 3D animations?

You enlightened me about AI voices in the last post, so there will be no more AI voices on this channel going forward.
Okay, this poll is more for my pure curiosity, but it's also for me to get to know you more. As many of you already know, "Return Trip" was not only my first video in six years of this post, but was also my first dabble in motion capture. But, just like the previous two polls, "A Casual Shift" has some negative comments about motion capture.

I'll admit, it's still a very new medium for me, I've never had any physical motion capture experience before. It's just me in my tiny office flapping my arms and legs around, (and spinning while falling over sometimes). The jittering artifacts you noticed so far is simply my inexperience in this style of animation, not the motion capture in general. But I hope to improve upon that in the next project.
Mocap does save me a lot of time for simple human-like movements, but it's not like it instantly takes away all the challenge of animation in general, as I am very limited on space. Raw mocap in the animation industry needs to be edited heavily, and 99.9969% of the time, raw mocap will never be approved as a final pass. I would even argue that it sometimes can take even longer than hand animation.
But I also understand how some prefer the classic keyframe/hand animation. It gives more room for style and uniqueness, at the cost of being a lot more work. (and no physical accidents lol)
For quick reference, all of my videos before "Return Trip" were hand animated. "Return Trip", the Bad Apple crossover and "A Casual Shift" were done in motion capture.

Thank you for all your feedback on all these polls 100%. Like last month, I will post a WIP of the next project in the next coming weeks or so.

Hello human,

TL;DR
AI voices in future videos that have dialog?

Thank you for voting on last week’s poll, I wasn’t expecting so many votes but I really appreciate your feedback and support!

Now, despite there only being three lines, “A Casual Shift” had some experimental voice lines that many of you thought was voice acting. I know AI voices is a very debatable topic, so I want you to decide what you’d prefer: AI voices that make characters sound human and minimize the use of subtitles, or the classic inkling/octoling (woomy, veemo, ngyes, etc) noises with subtitles?
I have a very specific vision (well, audibly) of the voices of these characters, so hiring actual professional voice actors is not going to be an option for me. Plus I like, don’t have the funds either to invest in something like that right now. Perhaps in the future maybe, but apologies for lack of that option.

Once again, thanks for your responses from the last poll. Voice any thoughts below and I am open to your creative suggestions.

Hello viewer,

TLDR;
Lilia & Lacey's new design or old design?

I've been getting a lot of feedback about various things since the posting of "A Casual Shift". So I'm going to hold a few polls throughout the week (until the next project) to get you more involved and my response to your various opinions and feedback. We'll start with redesigns. For those who have watched "A Casual Shift", it was actually intentional for me to make it all a non-canon dream/intermission story. The entire video was actually a huge experiment, since it was technically my first traditional Splatoon video in six years. Some of you seem to like the redesigns. Others, not so much.
My main argument is that a lot of my characters are rival Octolings, and they all have the same exact looking hair. Take (shameless plug) the Bad Apple video that I made, where all characters are silhouettes. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the characters if I used the old designs. However, I also understand those who dislike the new designs. I at the same time generally don't like constantly changing the appearance of my characters. But I suppose since I've been gone for so long, I wanted to try something different.
I will post another poll next week.

Feel free to voice any concerns or opinions below and I will read ALL of them.

Work-in-progress, because I guess Youtube wants me to "share a sneak peak of your next video".

On a side note, hope you guys are enjoying Splatoon 3's Side Order, haven't tried it myself yet, but it looks pretty neat.

Hello there,

Thank you for voting last week on that YouTube Poll I made. According to the tabulated results, It totally appears that you want to see something different from this channel.

Okay, for real though I was not really expecting those results. Short talk here, longer videos was actually what I've always preferred to do to anyway. Besides the return trip test video, most of my old videos aren't short clips (< 30 seconds) as generally most creators would often make because shorts are much easier to make and produce. But here I am typically spending weeks and months just to make a video when I could be making a short clip every day.

So here's my current proposal, if you want the longer videos (or OI2: Part 4), I am more than happy to make them. But because of how long they take me, it will indeed look like I died again (not for 5 years again hopefully) as in my upload schedule will be very spaced out. I know a few of you mentioned that creators make shorter/easy videos to fill in any upload gaps, which I will take into consideration, but I usually go all in on whichever project I have in the queue.

Once again, thank you for all the comments and suggestions, my eyes have seen ALL of them and I really appreciate you. I will post a work in progress screenshot update on my next animation in the next coming days or so.

Hello everyone,

Happy Lunar New Year for those who celebrate it. Just wanted to give a massive thank for all the welcoming comments from the two recent videos before this post, I've read all your comments and it does indeed mean a lot to me.

I've wondered about how much has changed during these 5-6 years on Youtube, what sort of content here do you prefer watching here these days? I've simplified examples of my stuff in the past, but I am open to your creative and honest suggestions below in the comments.

Thank you all returning and the feedback.

I don't know how many of y'all will actually see this, but I'll post something here anyway.
I'm still getting many comments to this day on my videos, and I was not expecting this much activity on this dormant Youtube channel.
No, I'm not dead. I'm fully aware this channel has been inactive for over 3 years, and I'm making this post to dispel any weird rumors you may have heard about me, and the future of this channel.
No, I did not get a job at Pixar (would be awesome if I did though lol), I was finishing up college the entire time this channel was inactive. I am now graduated. (Yay)

Yes, I silently left the community this channel was based on shortly after OI Part 3.
Will Octoling Innocent parts 4 and 5 come out?
Well after seeing that a lot of y'all are still asking for it even after 3 years has passed, I don't necessailry want this to become another dead Youtube channel, because this channel was the gateway to my long term interests in life, and have met many talented people who are now also retired from Splatoon. So in terms of OI parts 4 and 5, you be the judge.

In the future, I might start uploading new videos (Animations, Unreal Engine) again, but I need to diverse outside of Splatoon if that happens.
Apologies if this post disappointed any of you who still check on this channel. But now you know directly from me.
