Check out our BEAUTIFUL golden tomatoes! I wish I could remember the variety...our tomatoes did fantastic this year, and I have loads preserved in the freezer, and canned. What was your garden star this year?

Fall is well underway here in zone 5b! Hay is down in the fields, and hopefully we'll be loading the last of summer's bounty into the loft this evening. I've made a big batch of Elderberry Syrup, which is my latest full length video, and the vegetables continue to roll out of the garden. What's happening in your area? Let me know!

Hey there YouTube friends!
It's a LOVELY sunny, very cold, #cozy day here on the homestead, and I'm catching up all kinds of jobs today, including household #baking , #cooking, egg-cleaning-storing, tea making and the constant loading of split hardwood into the #woodstoves. If you're having a hectic day, or just want to hang out here on the farm where nothing more dramatic than frozen water troughs happens, head over to my playlists and check out some past videos! Or, if you want to know how to make my incredibly delicious, simple, and inexpensive white sandwich #bread, hit this link and learn how! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxbdA...

Hey everyone! Taking a few minutes from the Bakery, and managing our livestock in very cold weather to do a one minute tutorial on making DELICOUS, HEALTHY chicken stock from scratch. We raise our own poultry here on the farm, but market bought is just as good! Try making your own chicken stock- especially if you're under the weather! Add your favorite herbs and spices- even citrus, apples or stone fruit! Chicken packs a powerful protein punch, and the stock made from it is a delicious base for #cozy soups and stews, or even on it's own in a nice warm mug. Check out today's #shorts for the video, and let me know what you make and how much you love it! BIG HUGS!

Here we go!
My little bakery is starting to pick up steam, now that Dry/Diet/LowCarb/Carnivore/VegOnly/Suffer-your-way-through-January is over. As always, thank you for your patience as full-length videos are fewer and farther between. Even an 8 minute video takes loads of time to film and edit, and honestly, aside from the daily struggle with mud and precipitation- and the difficulties of animal care that this kind of weather produces, there's really not much going on here on the homestead. So, head over to my playlists for older videos if you like- there are literally hundreds!
BIG HUGS!!

Good morning friends!
I've been going through my photo files, to showcase an image that represents where we are now in the season. This was the closest I could get, as we are now fully into Mud Season, as spring has graciously arrived early this year! We're still getting very cold overnights, but the late March sun is strong, and blessedly, plants are starting to grow.

Some might say, 'it's too early!' or, 'this weather is WEIRD!'. I, however, am old enough, with the benefit of being a history, weather, and gardening NERD, to be able to say, 'No, not really. Each year is different.' Three years ago, we got 3 cuts of hay. Two years ago, we only got one, and it wasn't until September. (First cut usually happens in June, then second towards the first of August). Last year, we had a normal hay season with 2 cuts at the expected time.

I can only pray that with the onset of spring this year, it will give the hay plenty of time to grow thick and healthy! We've invested countless hours and lots of financial resources amending our hayfields, (along with HUNDREDS of pounds of high quality seed) as well as all the soil on our non-forest areas.

Here's to a profitable, straightforward, enjoyable growing season!!

..."Red sky in morning,
Sailors take warning..."

We are officially under a winter storm watch with a supposed 8-10" of accumulating snow. It's kind of a bummer, as we are seriously in Spring Mode, but this is the norm for this region. Reading the forecast and looking at the current radar, this scenario is setting up eerily similarly to winter storm Stella in 2017, which dropped 3 feet on us in 24 hours. I hope I'm WAY OFF lol. But as always, Mother Nature is in charge, and all we can do is prepare. I know a lot of my NE family is in the crosshairs as well, with several of them expecting in excess of a foot.

Ah well, it will be what it will be! Big hugs!!

We've had 3 days of BEAUTIFUL weather! Dry, mostly sunny, and not too cold. (But at night, it's been in the teens, so at least for morning chores, I don't have to deal with mud). It reminds me that sunny days will be back! The honk of the Canadian geese is back, and the birds are starting to sing. The sun streaming into my sitting room as I enjoy my morning coffee, warms the back of my neck pleasantly- all portents of the joy of the season ahead.
I hope your week has been a good one as well my friends!

About 6 months after we moved into our Old Tavern, Winter Storm Stella dropped more than 3 feet of snow on us in one day. This is a shot of the front of our home, and that is the mailbox, just peeking out of the snowbank. We've been really lucky this year to have had fairly average snowfall, and nothing brutally cold. Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!!
