I finally got around to doing some serious cable setup to turn it from the Cthulhu-an chaos above to the orderly cleanliness below.

This project took me two days of work, but the result is so satisfying. πŸ‘Œ

Did anyone else work on some cable management recently?

Went to my first theatrical screening of Tommy Wiseau's cult masterpiece of spectacularly good badness "THE ROOM" (2003) tonight with Shannon, Daniel, and Rina. Lines were yelled, footballs were tossed, and plastic spoons were thrown at the screen. It was glorious. This is my Tommy face. Any ROOM fans out there?

Mars Volta had a bigger mosh pit than Jinjer and I don't know what to think about that. πŸ˜‚

Wars of Words in The Minutemen's "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?" (1984)

In this hypertechnological, socially-mediated, metamodern age wars, both interpersonal and international often begin with words.

No bullets our territorial incursions are required to start a war today; only a President tweeting his aggression on X.

The Minutemen predicted this trend on their album Double Nickles on the Dime, which was released in that most Orwellian of years, 1984.

Simultaneously pointing to the power of the poet/lyricist, in the song "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?" Dennes D. Boon sings "a word war will set off the keg."

Click here to listen to the song: https://youtu.be/AB2xvXlNPt8?si=3C2JD...

Tragically, in the following year of 1985, the poet Boon himself died at the age of 27 after being thrown out of a can and dying from a broken neck.

However, his poignant words and solid guitar playing continue to resonate with our contemporary times, 40 years later.

What kinds of videos should I focus more on for the channel going forwards, friends?

If you want a crazy fingerstyle workout to try, bass friends, practice "The Toys Go Winding Down" by Primus. It's a brutal test of endurance.

The main riff is a series of relentless triplets. It can actually be played fingerstyle in two different ways, either with (a) alternating first and second finger or (b) alternating first, second, and ring finger.

It's also playable on pick if you want to practice picking triplets.

And if you REALLY want to play outside the box, you can play it with slap double-thumbing. πŸ˜‚

Interestingly, the main bass riffs of TOOL'S The Pot, Schism, and Vicarious are mostly played on the same frets: 0-10-12 and 14.

And yet, Justin Chancellor's phrasing of those notes is different enough that they all feel unique.

To me, this is a cool reminder of the fact that music is so much more than notes; rhythm, articulation, feel, tone, dynamics, technique, and use of space/rest can all have a powerful impact.

I wrote this song after coming home from a DJ Tiesto New Years rave in 2009. Still brings back so many memories and feelings. What do you think? 🎢 πŸ”₯
