Locking people in cages is INHUMANE. Hurting and torturing people psychologically and physically due to their documentation status is cruel and unusual punishment. All because the president needs to fulfill an incoherent, unreasonable, cruel, and heinous agenda that benefits the rich while hurting and targeting marginalized communities.

Right now, compassionate communication, creativity, love, community, knowledge, reading, writing, and self reflection are our vital tools to fight back against the authoritarianism that is taking place.

Americans, protect your soul from this administration. BE OPEN TO LEARNING. MAKE ART. BE CREATIVE. SING. DANCE. Do whatever you need to do to keep your fire burning. You can’t control what goes on outside but you have say over what goes on inside ₊˚❀༉‧₊˚.

My name is Ambar Carolina Cruz Rodriguez. I am a first generation estadounidense. My mother is from Dominican Republic and my father from Mexico. My parents came from different circumstances but both entered the U.S in search of the American Dream, until they found each other. They built a small family in a little apartment in the suburbs of New Jersey. Although this is only a small part of each of their stories it is how I came into existence.

Dear mami and papi, the older I grow the more I can understand the complexities and contradictions of life. I see your humanity and the ups and downs you’ve had to face. I carry your pains, your insecurities, your happiness, your success and your failures. I am forever a part of you and our souls are forever connected. I love and accept you as you are and I see you.

Long story short, my father was deported when I was a child. As someone who has dealt with the VERY REAL consequences of immigration policies - It deeply hurts me when I hear the lies and propaganda rhetorics popularized about immigrants. The Government of the United States is targeting the Latino community. Why? Greed. Arrogance. Cruelty. Power. Lack of morals.

My mother and father came to the US in search of growth and a higher quality of life. Just like me now, they were young and confused trying to navigate the difficulties of this world.

There’s no pain greater than having your family separated. ESPECIALLY as a child, that pain stays ingrained into your psyche and quite literally changes the trajectory of how your brain and nervous system works.
I will spend the rest of my life recovering from this hole in my heart.

The current political climate is making me feel intense heartbreak. In my home country I am watching families being ripped apart and parents being taken from their children. They remind me of the family I once had.

In deep states of sadness all I can think to do is write music that makes my soul feel alive, this involves a lot of crying.

I wrote a song inspired by how moved I am by my parents and family as I get older. Mom and dad, thank you for moving mountains for me. I’ll do the same for you
