If you have an idea that you haven't taken action on yet, and it's been more than a few days, find a smaller version of that idea.
Break it down and try the smallest possible thing.

"Use it or lose it" applies to everything in life.
If you don't practice your skills, they'll get rusty.
If you don't recall information, eventually you'll forget it.
If you don't do strength training, you'll lose your strength.
(P.S. this is a major cause of chronic pain)
If you don't maintain relationships, you'll drift apart.
Everything in your life is either:
- Growing
- Being actively maintained
- Slowly decaying
Life is a juggling act. Plain and simple.
Fortunately, some of the balls stay in the air longer than others.
And some are ok to drop.
The trick is:
- Not convincing yourself that things are permanent
- Figuring out how often to maintain the things that matter

Good morning! If you've got a ton on your plate today, try this:
1. Write down the top 3 most important tasks for the day.
2. You didn't write them down, you just thought about them. Write them down!
3. Log out of social media apps.
4. Set a 25-minute timer and work on the first one.

Things that never fail to improve my mood:
- Going for a walk
- Hitting the gym
- Calling my mom or a friend randomly to chat
- Helping people out with things for free
Exercise, connection, and feeling helpful are all generators of happiness.

How to find a career you love:
Look for work at the intersection of these three points:
- Skill
- Passion
- Growing, Hungry Audience
In my case, this is why I've enjoyed going so deep on teaching Notion on @ThomasFrankExplains.
It's right in the middle of the three points:
- I'm good at Notion, and also good at teaching and making content
- I love playing around with Notion. I noticed myself just building stuff for fun on weekend mornings. This morning a built a streak-counter for habits just to see if I could.
- It has a growing audience that is hungry for education and solutions
Put simply, the demand is there (Audience), I have the supply (Skill), and I enjoy the work (Passion).
And crucially, I've found that getting paid for this work doesn't diminish my enjoyment of it.
I've experienced that with other kinds of work – where money comes in and sucks all the fun out of it. That doesn't happen here.
As you go through your career and do different kinds of work, try to observe how your work fits each of those three points:
- Do you feel good at it? And does it feel like there's plenty of room for learning new skills and getting better?
- Is there an audience that's hungry for it?
- Do you enjoy the work, and does getting paid for it squash that enjoyment or not?

One of the biggest killers of my productivity is context-switching.
When I'm in the middle of a task and switch to something else, it takes a ton of time to switch back.
It's even worse than you think; while it might take 5 minutes to ~physically~ switch back, it can take a lot longer to get back into the flow state.
Here are a few ways I fight this:
- I try to keep my daily to-do lists small. If there a ton of items on the list, it's tempting to jump between them. It also kills clarity.
- I log out of Twitter when I need to get a solid session of work done. Other social networks don't tempt me, but Twitter is my kryptonite.
- My team is async-first, which means I'm not often interrupted. We've set rules – most messages are sent in Slack without expectation of immediate reply. If something is urgent, pick up the phone.
What do you do to avoid context-switching?

Hey friends! I'll be doing a live Notion build tomorrow, October 27, at 1 PM Eastern Time (10 AM Pacific) on my 2nd channel @ThomasFrankExplains.
We'll be building a complete note-taking system from scratch, and I'll be answering questions along the way.
If you want to learn Notion, this is a fantastic project for it!
See you there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dywZT...
