Gonna clarify this misconception about the threads of fate.
After defeating tenebris we are presented with two options, we can enter the portal (or) listen to tenebris’s words and turn back.
Image 1 (Turn back): If we choose to turn back, the portal awards shadow and his crew (sensei and may) with the power to warp reality. using which they make peace with the eternals.
THAT is Option 1 (for references).
However, when we choose the 2nd option, to Enter the portal, shadow takes the ability to change the places of humanity with eternals. (It is not the portal’s power to mold and shape reality)
Image 2:
Things to note - Tenebris already sealed humanity’s fate (to get destroyed), as vortex mentions.
Fatum implies he has more authority over the threads of fate than her.
In sensei’s dialogue, “we” is implied to be humanity as a whole, according to tenebris, humans are meant to be destroyed in cycles (spiral) and eternals are their executioners.
But now, shadow defeated tenebris and took this ability (to alter fate with the threads of fate) by force, so humanity has a choice now, as sensei mentions, show mercy or destroy them (shadow destroys them).
Image 3:
The “spiral” itself is not the threads of fate, “The spiral” is the fate, which, humanity has been experiencing since the start (self destruction and withering). As both Tenebris and Fatum put it.
The last dialogue is where Tenebris implies shadow can decide how fate plays out next, as he holds the threads of fate.
Things here are as straightforward as they get.

@Oreo_Editz Seriously?
Stranger himself hammers the fact that shadow mind is indeed inside the accelerator core after cleansing, where shadow mind has absolute control over the core (using which it can create worlds).
Invalid point as always.
