Had my 5th BJJ tournament this week. Won 2 out of 3 matches via submission. One submission was an armbar in 55 seconds! Below is a written breakdown of all 3 matches. Currently, my competitive record is 7-2.
Let me know if you would watch the matches. I'm thinking of uploading them to the channel. As well as my previous competitions. I've been through some career changes since I last uploaded a few years ago.
Recent tournament breakdown:
Match 1
Lose by 2 points.
Opponent did a good job, he was very strong and athletic. When I attempt a hip over sweep from standing, he falls onto me and into my guard. I think the ref game him to pts since he grabbed my leg. Close call, it could have gone either way. The rest of the match is him trapped in my guard. I attempted subs and sweeps, and he defended them well.
Going back to the training room, I want to focus on refining the small details of the hip over sweep from standing and seated. I tried both during the match and just missed it due to some small details.
Match 2
Lapel Choke Submission Victory!!
2nd fight of the tournament.
Won by submission. Lapel choke from mount.
My opponent had a nice gentle foot sweep/trip take down. Which resulted in him falling into my web, known as guard. I am very comfortable in guard. I end of sweeping him from guard with an oma Plata. He rolled forward, evading the shoulder lock submission, but the sweep helped me transition to a valuable top position. Side control and knee on belly, then eventually mount. His gi was loose. I love messing with there lapels and Lapel tail. I wrapped his tail Lapel around his throat and went for the Choke while having him pinned. Tighting the strangle until he taps out.
Very happy with this one, but this entire tournament has made me realize I need to work on my takedown game.
Match 3
Armbar Submission Victory!
This was my 3rd match or the #JJWL tournament.
Won by Submission. Armbar in 55 seconds.
My opponent failed to pull me into his guard. I passed his legs. Then, I worked my way to mount from side control. Collected the arm as he turned. Boom, armbar!

How many times have you overslept, felt more tired and the productive momentum for the day was ruined?
Some will argue that the purpose of making your bed in them morning is to get the first victory. I love this concept and I agree with it. Not with the making the bed part because honestly I never make my bed, but getting the first victory of the day and building momentum off of it. Whether it be going for a run, spending quality time with family, reading, meditating, doing a deep work or study session; getting a victory in the morning makes us feel better.

Tonight at 12am I will begin my 2nd annual Goggin's 4X4X48 Challenge.
I plan to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. I completed this challenge for the first time last year. It was an incredible test of will, endurance, and spirit. In life I find it important to test our capabilities, to push ourselves harder and further than we thought possible. There is no doubt in my mind that we as individuals put limitations on ourselves. And when we fight for our limitations we get to keep them. On the contrary when we fight for to make ourselves better we get to live our lives as better versions of ourselves. I remember last time I did this challenge I felt as if I had a clearer communication to my heart and spirit. I remember my mind and body were broken down, both the mind and body wanted me to quit. But the will of the spirit prevailed and got the job done.
Last time I did this an old friend on social media said it was stupid and I could get injured. Yes that's a possibility, but is it stupid? I don't think so. Everyone is entitled to there own opinions, personally I think that dude was projecting his own self imposed limitations, by calling it stupid. They want to justify in there head why NOT to do a challenge like this. Again people who fight for there limitations get to keep them.
As a side note I'm not afraid of a little pain, but obviously I don't wanna push injuries. Last year i tried a different challenge running 2 miles every hour for 24 hours. I got to the 12th run, 24 miles in and had to quit because of Achilles tendinitis, every single step, even walking, gave me a shooting pain up my leg, as if a razor scooter was smacking my Achilles heal. So I am capable of abandoning a challenge when its necessary, I'm not like Goggins. However I will do everything in my power to complete this challenge again.
Ill be posting this as a video on my YouTube channel when it is over and edited. And to I'll also post this to my IG @matlasmcgill with all the fitbit recorded runs.
Over the next 2 days the challenge will consistent of 12 runs total, 6 each day. the day is structed as 4 hour block slots. Each 4 hour slot I will complete a 4 mile run. 12am to 4am, then 4am to 8am, then 8am to 12 pm, and so on.

Real estate is a journey and a roller coaster. Being that I'm 3 weeks new to residential real estate, it's certainly a journey of learning. Real estate is also a roller coaster of experiences and emotions. Especially now, in the beginning.
I feel like I'm going back and forth emotionally... from being overwelmingly anxious to being blisteringly confident that I have what it takes to make a successful career out of it. I'm taking it one day at a time but I figured why not document the journey?
This short vlog is of my 2nd open house I've ever done. Check it out thank you for watching and thank you for subscribing! Remember... Always be learning, creating and inspired!

What makes someone the best of the best in there field? Imagine if you could download the relentless psychology that people like Michael Jordan had, to excel in your chosen field. What you tell yourself makes a difference. Affirmations are real. If your good don't stop until you're great, but if you're great don't stop until you're unstoppable! Repeat after me "I am relentless!" watch video on watch page

What should I do with the channel name?
YOU DECIDE!!!
Rather than calling it matlas, a combo of my 1st and 2nd name, I've considered calling it simply Matt McGill. However several OG subscribers have asked me about the channels old brand name TridentLion. It was my gamer tag from back in the day but it is a confusing name for new subs. It's not a clear brand name regarding the channels content, like my friend michaels channel name "BestBookBits." I'm leaning towards leaving it the same as it is, or call it by my full name, or switching it to "Matt McGill - TridentLion." However I really would love to hear your feedback. Much love from me to you. Remember to always...
