We have uploaded a Playlist from Dexter Gordon: youtube.com/playlistlist=... because 80 years ago, in 1945 jazz Dexter decided to start making records under his own name. Before that he was featured on recordings by Dizzy Gillespie and the Billy Eckstine big band. By the way Gordon wasn’t just a legendary jazz musician — he also had a knack for acting. He earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor thanks to his soulful performance in "Round Midnight" (1986). That same year, he picked up a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Soloist, for the album "The Other Side of Round Midnight" And just for fun, he popped up in a cameo in the 1990 film "Awakenings". watch video on watch page

Gladys Knight & The Pips are kicking off the second leg of their U.S. tour on September 19 in Greensboro.
Here’s the story behind “Midnight Train to Georgia.” The song was originally written and recorded by Jim Weatherly under the title “Midnight Plane to Houston.” The inspiration came from a casual conversation with actress Farrah Fawcett. She mentioned she was taking the midnight plane from Los Angeles—where she lived with actor Lee Majors, a friend of Jim’s—to Houston to visit her family. Weatherly turned that offhand remark into a song. It eventually found its way to Atlanta producer Sonny Limbo, who wanted to record it with Cissy Houston. However, he suggested changing the title to “Midnight Train to Georgia”—a line that not only gave the song a deeper emotional resonance but also helped turn it into a timeless classic. watch video on watch page
