D. Zisl Slepovitch, Ph.D. is an ethnomusicologist, educator, clarinetist / reed player, conductor, pianist, composer, and Yiddish singer, founder of Litvakus, Zisl Slepovitch Trio, Zisl Slepovitch Ensemble and Minsker Kapelye, Yiddish Language and Culture Instructor at The New School. He has had great pleasure and fun to work with Michael Alpert, Paul Brody, Hankus Netsky, Frank London, to name a few; arranging music for the Itzhak Perlman and Cantor Helfgot album (Sony Classical); wrote, co-produced, arranged, and performed shows presented by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, as well as a number of other US and European companies. His favorite film work was that in Defiance directed by Edward Zwick. Zisl loves teaching and believes that one can learn from everyone, whether teaching, studying, or working together.
