5 years ago today, I posted my first video here on the channel. I filmed it on an iPhone in selfie mode, and set the camera on top of a few cardboard boxes which were sitting on a chair in my living room. I rambled for a few minutes but the mission was clear: I wanted to help more people with their personal finances and investing, budgeting, etc. I begrudgingly posted the video, as cringe as it was.

I posted a few videos that summer in 2019, but after my first three videos went nowhere...literally 5-10 views each (and all the views were from my friends), I lost interest. That same summer I started watching Tik Tok before bed. At the time, it was mostly young teens/early 20s kids posting funny videos and dances. But there was one day it dawned on me... I thought to myself: "let me search #personalfinance and see what videos come up".

And guess what showed up? Literally one video. On the entire platform of Tik Tok - about finance. I saw that as an opportunity and decided to start posting basic finance Tik Toks.

My goal was simple. Make 30 days of Tik Tok videos in a row and see what happens. And I'm glad I did. After 30 days my account grew to 110K followers, and I continued making content. Content creation was very difficult at first, and I found it hard to edit, as well as come up with ideas. At the same time I started my YouTube again, but I struggled with it for most of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

However, as long as some people were finding the videos helpful, I found it valuable to post, and I've had a lot of fun with the process.

It brings me a lot of joy to hear from people across the world about how my videos have impacted them, or helped them start a retirement account, or start investing. Every time someone says hi to me in person, its very fulfilling seeing that the content I make behind a screen is making a difference.

So I just wanted to say thank you. To another 5 years.

PS I am going to put out a job posting for a creative strategist/social media manager in a couple days if you're looking to be apart of this team! Be on the lookout.

Special thanks to anyone who has supported, worked with me, or helped me a long the way. I would list them all out here but I'm afraid this post would be 1000 pages long at that point 🤣

best,
Humphrey
