I sat down with Ayman Al-Abdullah, my friend and former CEO of AppSumo. (He helped scale the company from $5M to $70M from 2016 to 2021).

Now he’s a CEO coach helping 7-figure CEOs get to 9-figures. Sharing the top lessons from our conversation in tomorrow’s newsletter: noahkagan.com/

I worked directly under Mark Zuckerberg. The lessons I learned from Facebook ended up helping me build AppSumo into a $100 million per year company.

Tomorrow, I’m sharing my top 10 lessons from Mark. Sign up here: noahkagan.com/

I don't think I've ever shared a more RAW and authentic look at my day to day running AppSumo. Even while running a company that makes nearly $100M in sales, it may surprise you how "normal" my day is 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Justin Bieber: 285 songs, 85 hits (30%)
Taylor Swift: 243 songs, 59 hits (24%)
Drake: 133 songs, 38 hits (28%)

73% of their output is NOT popular.

Meanwhile, you write 1 article and give up immediately…

I’m 42. I’m the CEO of a $100m/yr company. I’ve met 25+ billionaires… and I still don’t know what the hell I’m doing some of the time.

Just a friendly reminder that the people you look up to are still figuring it out.

~~

When I first started AppSumo, my goal was to make $3,000/mo so I could work on the beaches of Thailand.

Last year, I took home $3.3M in income.

I collected the top 25 books that have helped me the most:

Something I’ve noticed from hanging around many successful entrepreneurs:

Speed.

They go from idea to first sale in the time it takes most to write a business plan.

My buddy Sam Parr is rich af and STILL moves insanely fast.

He launched samslist.co/ in a weekend.

Speed is a superpower.

• Michael Jordan: 9,000 failed shots
• James Dyson: 5,126 failed vacuums
• Thomas Edison: 10,000 failed light bulbs

They failed for DECADES before success.

Meanwhile, people get one rejection and quit immediately…..

If you’re starting from zero, keep your job.

Build a side hustle and slowly replace your income.

Once you have enough savings, then consider going all in.

Quitting your job is a BIG deal.

Don’t let the freedom gurus put you in a poor financial position.

I've been keeping notes from meetings with wealthy friends.

Created a short ebook: "Things the rich don't want you to know."

Things like:

- Which banks give you the highest yield
- How to fly nearly for free
- Where to put your company finances
- How to get paid for owning a yacht
- How to game the tax system

Some will surprise you, some will disappoint you, and some will be new that you can implement into your personal finances.
