But I realized something late last night that I had to take a minute to post about.
5 Years Ago (yesterday) I released "Guest". Many of you may know the back story to that song already but here's what a lot of ppl probably don't know. That was the FIRST music video I ever edited. My homie Izzy said he could film it and he knew a friend that could line up the haunted house and some ppl to come out as long as I didn't mind editing it. I said "send it! I'll figure the shit out!!!" I stayed up for almost 2 days straight editing this and then uploaded it having ZERO idea of what a "good post time" was or ANY of the "YouTube do's or don'ts"... I just hit POST. And then. I hit the floor. And passed tf out... when I woke up... Guest was trending🤯
No Google ads. No Label. Just a determined mf who KNEW in his gut that if I kept pressing long enough the "stars would line up eventually".... And on December 16th, 2019. They did. So thank you Izzy. Thank you Alan for the plug. Thank you for everyone who pulled up and froze your balls (or boobs) off in December in Illinois. Thank you Eric for showing me how to use the "cut" tool on whatever program I edited this shit on. And last but not least. THANK YOU. YOU. YOU who not only watched THIS song and made it become what it's become! But then stuck around long enough to STILL be here 5 years later thru all the growing pains to read this. (Sorry for the novel, almost done). Last thing I HAVE to say is to anyone out there who has a dream but ain't "there" yet. Let this post be motivation that dreams come true. I had 672 subscribers when I posted this video that I edited by myself with no more knowledge then how to cut the videos. Literally that's it. I didn't even know how to upload the shit to YouTube! I am 100% the example of if I can do it, YOU can do it!! As long as you have the ONE KEY INGREDIENT... HEART. If YOU don't have heart, if you don't believe in yourself, just save yourself the time and pain (AND MONEY) and give up now cause I PROMISE you MOST people WON'T believe in you until it becomes unpopular for them NOT to.... Don't sweat them tho. Let em play their part, why lose and rob the haters their purpose in life, right? And to those who HAVE SHOWN LOVE, know this.... I haven't even scratched the surface of doing the best I can do in pretty much EVERY area of this music career shit, and I PROMISE I will always strive to be better in ALL areas, but the NUMBER ONE area I WILL do a better job of in the NEXT 5 YEARS is enjoying the ride TOGETHER WITH Y'ALL!!!!! This one’s pretty important. I’m numb so I probably won’t say this how I want to but I’m gonna try. This clock belonged to my grandparents “Noni & Papa”. Tuesday I got a call Nonie was in hospice. I left first thing Wednesday morning to see her. When I got there I was shocked by finding out Papa was also there. I didn’t even know he was sick. 3 wks ago he was walking by himself to church. Friday afternoon I held his hand while he took his last breath…
Nonie wasn’t good either but was stable so I returned to Nashville yesterday for a show I was booked for. 30 mins from the venue I got the call that she passed too…
I’m numb right now if I’m being completely honest. But I posted this clock because I wanted to use it to hopefully help someone with it.
Life is short and time moves fast. REALLY fast. Like this clock says sometimes family will eat together & other times family will fight. That’s life. What matters in the end is that no matter what, you do it together. Like Nonie & Papa did, right up until their last breathes. I love you both so much and miss you already. You’re at peace now and finally reunited with your son (my father). Not sure how much “fighting” you’ll be allowed up there but I’m sure the foods good👌 Save me a seat at the table. I’ll see you again when it’s my time to go home. Til then I pray this clock is a reminder to spend my time here WITH the people who matter most & DOING the things that matter most🕊️🕊️ And I pray this post is a reminder to whoever reads this to do the same🙏
