Halloween is over, the radio stations are playing Christmas music, and the holiday menu is back at Starbucks. ✨

Starting Thursday, Nov. 2, Starbucks will serve its holiday specialty drinks in the coffee chain’s iconic (and occasionally controversial) holiday cups.

“This year’s holiday theme is ‘Share the Joy,’” Starbucks creative director Kristy Cameron said in a press release. “It’s our shared human experience and togetherness that makes the season special.”

On August 2, 1986, two U.S. Forest Service workers were out collecting timber data on a remote logging road in the Mt. Hood National Forest near Government Camp when they stumbled upon a human skull, bone fragments, and a single tooth.

The coroner estimated that the skull had been in the woods for about a decade, which meant the person had died around 1976. Investigators released those details to the public and they got dozens of leads through a tip line.
But eventually the case went cold, until now.

This is The Unidentifieds, a limited series podcast from The Oregonian/OregonLive, where we look at missing persons cases – left on evidence shelves for decades.

Walter Cole, who was better known as Portland’s legendary drag queen Darcelle XV, has died. He was 92.

Cole’s death was first reported Thursday evening on the Facebook page for his nightclub, Darcelle XV Showplace.

For more than 50 years, Cole entertained generations of tourists and bachelorette parties at his Old Town nightclub, where the entertainer told bawdy jokes in elaborate makeup and beaded gowns, while acting as master of ceremonies to a parade of other drag queens and dancers.

As Darcelle, Cole became an unofficial ambassador of goodwill for the city, supporting a variety of charities over the decades, appearing in numerous Rose Festival and Pride parades, and receiving the Spirit of Portland Award from the city’s mayor. In 2016, Cole was recognized by Guinness World Records as the World’s Oldest Drag Queen Performer.

Meet the new, youngest ever Women’s World Elk Calling Champion, Ella Lees, a middle schooler from La Grande.

Elk sounds vary from grunts, screams and coos to something like an excited chimpanzee – a sound human elk callers refer to as “chuckling.” None of it sounds like something that would emanate from a 12-year-old girl.
