This was a severe case of diastasis recti. After Mama Tβs second baby, she was told that she had a 12-finger gap!π±
Put two palms together on your belly, and there is still more room to wiggle between the gap. Seven weeks later, it was down to 7 fingers (the body heals naturally),π and then 5 months later, it was down to 4 fingers and 2.5 knuckles at the start of my Tummy Warrior program.
During those earlier postpartum months, she tried doing what she had done after her first baby, which had helped her, but it felt very different this time. On top of that, she had an umbilical hernia that pushed her belly button out.
She wanted to speed up her core recovery and live her life again with her body functioning normally. And so, she began her TW journey with us! Gradually, every 2 weeks, we had her measure the DR, and every time, she was closing the gap and reducing the depth.
Thatβs why you need to know your starting point from Upper, Middle, to Lower DR (you may or may not have all 3). If you feel a gap in all 3 areas, that means you have an open diastasis recti like Mama T. In addition to this, check the depth to feel if your transverse abdominal muscles are tensing. The deeper it goes in, the weaker your transverse abdominal muscles are.π₯
Once you know your starting point, measure it every 2 weeks to check your progress so you know if your exercises and nutrition are actually working for you. IT MATTERS WHO YOU WORK WITH π
