Dear Ryan
Queen of the Hill was written about an old 'Tinker' lady who used to visit my grandmother's croft when I was a young child. She was a fascinating old lady and we thought of her as being like the Queen of the travelling people. She very much represented the end of a particular way of life for many of these people and with that the end of a fntastically rich cultural and musical heritage.
I had this lasting image of her in my mind as she left our company for the last time. She walked to the top of the small hill by our house, turned her back into the wind and walked off.So the song is really a homage to her and her people and their culture.
