Markkanen going nowhere say Jazz

Lauri Markkanen has been the hottest prospect still on the board for any contenders wanting to get to the next level. With a GM like Danny Ainge, he definitely won’t be traded on the cheap. The Warriors seemed to be the most serious of acquiring the Fin’s services with offering the supposedly the best trade package so far. But the Jazz aren’t “motivated" to let him go unlike Mitchell and Gobert seasons before.

With his contract up at the end of next season, the Jazz have to decide whether to get a huge haul for him or keep him and offer him the max. With one of the best draft classes inbound the Jazz probably won't want to give up any draft assets. The team seems unsure whether it’s playing for an offseason place or the lottery so only time will tell.

Buddy Hield turns down Detroit and Lakers to join Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have found their Klay Thompson replacement by signing Buddy Hield in a sign and trade. Hield will get 3 years $21 million guaranteed with the fourth year as a player option with the 76ers receiving a 2031 second round via Dallas.

The Warriors front office have already declined a Zach Lavine trade for Wiggins and Chris Paul so fans in the bay aren’t filled with much hope. Hield had other offers but came to Golden State in hopes of helping the team win another ring. Kyle Anderson and De'Anthony Melton have already joined as role players. Lauri Markkanen is one of the Warriors targets to get them back as at least a contender by getting Steph Curry a co-star.

Spurs eye up Derozan return

After a rapid start to free agency, trades and player moves have started to go back to normality. Demar Derozan is one of the high profile free agents left that hasn’t decided on his future. With interest from the east and west, the Spurs are rumoured to be the most likely. Adding DeRozan would provide a reliable scoring option and mentorship for younger players like Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, especially since DeRozan might be affordable due to limited offers from other teams.

DeRozan's lack of shooting and defense make him a poor fit with the Spurs' current lineup, and he is reportedly seeking a significant contract, which the Spurs are unlikely to offer. San Antonio is focused on maintaining cap space for 2025. With a promising young core and Chris Paul joining the roster as a veteran presence, the Spurs will not be changing their philosophy any time soon, especially with Coach Pop at the helm.

Warriors eye Buddy Hield as Klay replacement

The Warriors are in need of a shooter after the departure of one half of the splash bros. Golden State are in advanced talks with the 76ers for a sign in trade according to Shams. But no players or picks have been firmly agreed on.

Hield had a mixed 2023-24 season, averaging 12.1 points and 3.2 rebounds over 84 games with the Pacers and 76ers, shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point range. However, his performance dipped in the playoffs with the 76ers, averaging only 12.8 minutes per game during their first-round exit. Despite this, Hield has a history of thriving with extended minutes, having consistently made over three three-pointers per game in his last 5 seasons, and could see a resurgence with the Warriors if the trade is finalized.

Klay Thompson signs sign in trade with Mavs

Klay Thompson has finally left the Warriors big 3 after a breakdown in contract discussions with the front office. Throughout his Warriors tenure, Thompson won four NBA titles and  earned five All-Star appearances. He missed two seasons due to injury but returned to help the Warriors win the 2021-22 title. Thompson will sign a 3 year deal worth $50m which will involve Josh Green going to the Hornets for some draft picks.

Last season, Thompson played 77 games, the most since 2016-17, although his performance showed signs of decline, including a career-low three-point percentage. Klay will probably be moved to small forward to accommodate the Irving and Doncic backcourt. Dallas hopes to cash in with an elite shooter to make shots as support for the most double teamed player in the league. The Mavs will be looking for revenge this season and hope Thompson can rediscover some of his old form to help them reach the summit.

Paul George signs 4 year deal with 76ers

The Paul George free agency saga is over after he’s decided to sign a 4 year max deal with the 76ers. George, a nine-time All-Star, declined a $48.7 million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, ending a five-year tenure with the team. The 34-year-old George, who has averaged 20.8 points over his 14-year career, aims to sign the contract shortly after the league’s moratorium on signings is lifted on July 6.

The Clippers now have the cap space to find a new star but don’t have much to choose from. On the other hand, the 76ers aim to be the best team in the east with George signing to put them over the top. Philadelphia haven’t got to the conference finals since their finals run in 2001 so Embiid’s and Pg13 fitness will decide how far this team can go.
