Happy New Year Everyone!
I wanted to give you a start of the year update!
As youāll have noticed, I have been inconsistent last year with posting videos on Into Europe.
A big part of that has been for health reasons, I recently developed some pretty big dietary intolerances which resulted in me losing quite a bit of weight, and it made the stress of managing a YouTube channel on heavy topics a bit too difficult to bear.
I havenāt gotten entirely to the bottom of it, but with the changes Iāve recently made to my diet, Iāve been feeling more energetic, and putting back on some of the weight Iāve lost.
After the last video I made on the topic of Islam in Europe, I needed to slow down for a bit. I took some days off and am currently working part-time - though I plan to progressively ramp this back up at the start of the year.
I am currently working on a video on Multiculturalism and its future in Europe.Ā
This is also the time to talk about the Future of the Channel(s).Ā
In the past few videos, I explored some difficult topics that will be the hallmark of the main channel. The goal is to provide a fact-based, objective understanding of the biggest issues facing Europe - as well as the policy directions to tackle them.
That means that the upload frequency will be somewhat lower, but will have the depth that I think many of you have come to enjoy. I am still looking into ways to make those videos funnier and a bit more engaging - but that will be a work in progress.
Iāve also experimented with the idea of Last Week in Europe format, and I see quite some potential in the idea.
And while the start date is uncertain, it will have its own New Channel, to which you can already subscribe here: www.youtube.com/channel/UCYMV...
I also have a couple of other ideas/projects in the works, but I will keep this under wraps for now!
Thanks again for supportingĀ theĀ channel! :)
Again Happy New Years
Cheers, Hugo

-Qatar threatens future EU gas contracts over 'Qatargate' response-
With the Belgian investigation pointing to Qatarās responsibility, despite indications that other countries might also be involved, Qatari diplomats were barred from the EU parliament.
Responding to the move, the country has threatened its ongoing gas contracts with the EU.
āThe decision to impose such a discriminatory restriction that limits dialogue and cooperation on Qatar before the legal process has ended will negatively affect regional and global security cooperation, as well as ongoing discussions around global energy poverty and security,ā - Qatari diplomat
While Russian gas is being phased out, the EU has looked to Qatarās gas fields (the 3rd largest in the world) as one of its future alternative suppliers.
Italian energy producer Eni signed on to become one of the main investors in new Qatari gas development in June 2022. In November, Germany signed a 15 year deal for an annual 3bcm.
The limitations of the EU's diversification strategy for natural gas are already visible, even before these alternative suppliers have supplied a single drop of additional LNG.

EU (including member states) becomes the largest donor to Ukraine.
Numbers you won't see in the US/UK media: EU has committed more than the US in support of Ukraine and Germany and France are the 2nd and 3rd largest donors ahead of the UK.
For several months we have heard that Europe and the EU haven't been pulling their weight. But the numbers tell a different story: Europeans have borne most of the economic repercussions while at the same time giving the most to Ukraine.
Some nuance though:
The US is an ocean away, and Ukraine is first and foremost Europe's business.
Additionally, the paying out of these funds is contingent on the funds from the EU not being blocked by Hungary. Likewise, other funds still need to be disbursed.
