Today I was asked how I started to garden on the small space I have. Wanted to share this with you. Great question and answer:
What a beautiful garden tour- thanks for showing us around! I can't believe how much you have going on- in what seems like a smaller space. Well done! Question: did you start out gardening with just a few items or many more? Last year was my first year gardening and I was overwhelmed lol! I tried way too many items.
i started out with a little area in ground garden. Over the years added more, especially medicinal herbs have been added in the last few years. More conscious now of proper medicinal herbs now than before. But it started before Heidi even with a Persian college student who came into my office with a comfrey leaf, saying I needed to look into growing this plant. I was off to the races. My motto is not garden design because of small space but more if there is room there is a plant. My husband requires that a wheel barrow fits through. This then has its own beauty as the plants mature. I mix in flowers I love such as Gladiola and Dahlias. It is a heaven for about 15 different bird species we enjoy feeding and watching as welk. Additionally, i was tired of eating fruits and veggies that did not taste good. I wanted a tomato I could taste so that became a passion. This led to preserving practices since here in Ca water is precious and expensive. And yes at times I feel overwhelmed too. But that quickly passing emotion is replaced by the benefit of what we grow and my love of gardening. Sometimes I take on a challenge when some think I can’t grow a certain plant for my garden zone. I have found starting my own seed is more beneficial because i save seed with the right plants. Recently got into soil blocking as a seeding method and love it. I can’t-wait to see your garden and love to see everyone’s gardens grow. https://youtu.be/ElHTPBT7-Ek

Garden Success
Very rare to grow Brassicas during this time of year in Ca. This was the sole Cauliflower that made it. Lots of cabbage did as well. Will be in cabbage work today making and canning coleslaw. Some will be freeze dried but has to have alternate to mayo but works great too.
