New video HAS JUST GONE LIVE* I'm going to use the feature that allows me to compare how different thumbnails perform today, so don't be surprised if you see both the versions up above in your timeline.

This video is part four of "How I Made Autism Make Sense", where we're looking into the three different varieties of emotional stress that particularly affect autistic folks and which contribute to the emotional element of the Triad of Distinction. It's gone down really well with my patrons over on Patreon, so I hope you find it useful too👍

Don't forget to do the old likey, subscribey, sharey stuff for me, if you can😊 2/3 of the comments left on my videos are from non-subscribers & it really seems odd that so many take the time to leave a comment, but aren't yet subbed, despite saying they love my work.

S'a funny old world, eh?

Expect the next video on sensory stresses in about a week if you're a paying patron, or two weeks here on YouTube.

T'RA!

* I posted earlier to expect it at around 7-8pm, but I managed to get it uploaded earlier than expected😊

One for the cat/animal lovers...

Because of a last minute cock up, yesterday's video (Autism: The 3rd Paradigm) went up about 2 hours later than I'd planned. It meant I was still downstairs with my beautiful furry girls when they turned in for the night. It was lovely to see them curled up next to each other in my wife's (not Sheldons's) "spot" on the sofa.
Nyota (the dark one) and Orla (ginge) are sisters from the same litter but they often spend their days at opposite ends of the house. Seeing them so close & happy to be in each other's company just feels warm & fuzzy in a way I can't quite communicate, but plenty of you will know anyway.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback on the new release btw. It's been really positive & supportive, which is motivation I'm very happy to have behind me right now. It's great seeing how so many of us have come to similar or complementary conclusions to those I'm proposing.

I'm recording the next video later today & hoping for a shorter gap before release this time. I'll also be putting up a new vlog for Patrons, detailing a few recent personal developments & the odd amusing or interesting snippet 😊

Take care autistipeeps & see you soon!

Quinn

New video - "Autism: The 3rd Paradigm"

It's a bit of a BIG sounding title, but it fits.

What if neither the medical view OR the neurodiversity viewpoint had it right? What if instead of a doctor, an anthropologist published the first evidence of autism?

This time round I'm going into the foundational view of where I've long felt us autists might fit into "the big picture" of humanity. It's right at the root of the autistic Triad of Distinction and it's fundamental to how I understand and manage my life to avoid overstressing myself into burnout.

It's a long watch at 33 minutes, but I hope it'll be worth your while 😊 watch video on watch page

I've spent the last few days editing the next Autistamatic video, but I had to interrupt it for a few hours today to spend some time with one of my favourite people - Mike from ‪@Autistic_AF‬
Mike doesn't come over to the mainland very often, so it was an absolute delight to welcome him to join me for a spot of lunch and a chat. It's wonderful that so many of us have found friends and understanding in people and communities we've discovered online, but it's a rare joy to meet up with one of those friends in person. Thanks Mike for your friendship and for taking the time and effort to come and visit.
We DID sit down and film part of our conversation and I'll be posting some of the highlights on Patreon soon.
The video I'm currently editing should be available on YouTube in the next few days👍

AAAAAAAARGH!!!!

This video was delayed by 48 hours thanks to Microsoft😡

What follows is only mildly techy, but still a BIT nerdy. If you're nerd-averse (unlikely if you're reading this) then look away now!

I'm no stranger to the delights of Linux... I have a couple of different distros installed here & there & I do 99% of my gaming (when I get the time) on Steam OS or Bazzite these days... but my productivity & cloud affairs are still Windows based. Bit me on the bum didn't it!

This video was meant to go up over the weekend - Saturday ideally - but I couldn't export it. Every time I tried to finish it, ready for upload, it would freeze partway through and I had to shut down, reboot and start the render from scratch... except when I rebooted the PC, the 2nd internal drive that my filmed files were stored on wasn't visible any more😱😱😱 Couldn't see it in disk management or via command line either - as if it had vanished or died & gone off to Silicon Heaven (where all the calculators go). They weren't backed up yet either & by the time it happened I'd already erased the memory card.

F🤬😡K my luck!!!!!!!!

I spent 2 days dismantling & reassembling my editing PC, cleaning, reseating bits and so on. I fiddled about in the BIOS looking for a cause, tested the affected drive in an external cradle and discovered that the drive was working, data seemed intact and the drive SHOULD be working fine. I started looking up how to test the M.2 socket on the motherboard in case that was the dud link in the chain?

Eventually after dismantling, cleaning, checking & updating drivers, copying vital files to another external drive and hours searching for solutions in hardware OR software (I've just changed to a new software suite after all) I came up with nothing BUT.... with the drive still in the external cradle, my render settings set to DEAD SLOW & doing it in chunks, I got it finished and up on the interwebs...

This morning I found out via ‪@Jayztwocents‬ that the Windows update I installed a few days ago might be responsible. Not all SSDs are vulnerable, but the one I usually use to host my filmed video was on the list of affected drives. I spent two days worth of work time looking for the problem in ALL the wrong places!!!!

I'll have to roll back the update or carry one with the backup drive until it's fixed. I'm just lucky I seem to have all my data intact😰

Lesson learned I guess😂🤷‍♂️

DaVinci Resolve has a linux version, as do most of my other productivity apps, so if I can find good enough drivers for my nvidia laptop GPU to match or beat Windows performance in productivity, I might think about switching🤔Any content creating Linux afficionados with experience who want to weigh in - be my guest😊

In the meantime... Microsoft - GRRRRRRR!!!!!!🤬 watch video on watch page

NEW AUTISTAMATIC VIDEO!

Yes I know that's a bit shouty, but I've worked like a bugger on this one!

I've completely changed the software suite I use to make videos over the last few weeks which has been quite a learning curve. I hope you'll see the difference and that you'll like it😊 Feedback on all aspect is always welcome, though. You guys give me some great ideas in your comments.

I've new content in the pipeline & getting life sorted day by day, so expect more content real soon👍

New VLOG (available until the next proper video uploads)

I've been out of sight for a few weeks thanks to a new lemons-and-lemonade kind of situation. One that was a bit too lemony and so overwhelmed me a bit!

This "August vlog" talks a bit about what's been happening, WHY my next release is a little different to the usual and a chance to share a couple of things that have made me smile on YouTube recently.

I won't bore you with the details here - watch the video and let me bore you for 15 minutes instead!😂

The next proper video will go up as soon as it's finished, though I'm aiming for sooner rather than later. My need for routine is as strong as any other autist, but the ups & downs of the last couple of years have made keeping ANY sense of day-to-day continuity into an uphill struggle. It's all well and good dropping everything to respond to a crisis, but getting back to where we were BEFORE everything kicked off can be WAY more difficult for us than the NT world realises, and rarely is that more self-evident for me than in recent times.

Aaaaaaaanyway... As I point out in the vlog, things are getting back under control & I'm able to get back to doing what ( I think ) I do best: blathering on about autism in the hope I can help a few people feel better about themselves, and maybe even teach something useful on the way.

If you want to watch any of the YouTube videos I mentioned in the second half of the vlog, here are the links you'll need:

Patrick: https://youtu.be/FsmIufH316k?si=nhezl...

Jenni: https://youtu.be/_3fjqnl9WwU?si=9IW2B...

Tom: https://youtu.be/kK0KPuH32mc?si=Q9YJ6...

If you've any comments, suggestions or questions please reply to this post below. I'll remove the video link when the next "proper" video is uploaded, but the rest will remain😊

See you (properly) soon

Quinn 🖖

P.S. If you haven't yet watched my friend Mike's ‪@Autistic_AF‬ recent video about the "birds & bees" talk us autistic folks SHOULD have had when we were young, then give it a go. It's a long watch, so like me you may want to watch it over a few sessions, but I think he's done a fantastic job of handling the subject with grace, maturity & sensitivity. Makes me feel a little glow inside when I see a friend do such amazing & valuable work.

So it seems I was right that my difficulty in "picking a number" is far more common amongst us autistipeeps than I initially thought, 'cos there's been lots of comments and messages asking me to talk more about it since "How I Made Autism Make Sense" concluded our introduction to the Triad of Distinction last night. I think I know WHY coming up with a number on a scale of opinion or feeling is a problem for me after examining it through the Triad, but if you know me & my approach to autism, your reasons may be slightly different to mine. Nonetheless I've gathered a number of alternative ways of coming up with a number that feel OK both to me and the person, organisation or form that wants it from me. Some of them work well for me, others not so much, but I'm happy to share them all.
I started writing earlier on and quite quickly realised how much depth there is in this topic if I'm to cover the "Why" as well as the "How", so I want to see what you guys would like me to do first.

Anyone who fancies a shufty at a preview of the third part of "How I Made Autism Make Sense" can find one in the "Short" I just cobbled together as a promo for the release tonight at 8pm (UK time). It should be right above/below/next to these words right now😊
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful feedback so far - some of it has been incredible - and especially to those who've chipped in a little to help keep the lights on. There's so much more of the Triad to cover and a lifetime's worth of other topics to talk about, so it all helps me keep going.
This is my first foray into the "shorts" arena & I'll be putting together a few more in the next week or so whilst I prep the next Triad video. They'll be a mix of re-edited material and new stuff, so watch out for them coming up. Any and all feedback is welcome, and if you have a suggestion for a clip from a previous video of mine that you think would make a great short to pull the punters in, please drop me a line or leave a comment below👍

WHOOPS!
Thanks to the rapid response from ‪@lost_boy‬ I realised very quickly that the upload of Part 2 of "How I Made Autism Make Sense" had a glaring audio cock-up in it. I could let it go but... I'm autistic so I can't😂
I'll be re-uploading it for a proper launch at 8pm - same time as last night. Sorry to anyone who got caught out by the sound-glitch I'm fixing😟
See you at 8!
