To be competent in the realm you wish to thrive in, take the publicly perceived positive traits/characteristics of the topic/subject, and explain your understanding of the desire and how you relate. Then, in a swift yet subtle kind of way, pull the curtains from the truth at hand and explain the actual case via a parable. For example, "I know the pain of losing someone to lethal gun violence, guns were created with the intent to put forth death, or injury to to whom has life. In the world where guns are unlawful, you should then feel safe having your door unlocked at night. When you wake up at midnight, and there is a burglar in your home, with a gun that he owns illegally, you're then not able to make it out of that situation, free and clear." This should clear the illusion of the 'truth' they perceived and set the real case before their eyes, so long as they have the intelligence to grasp it. This is another way of addressing 'the cave' allegory, in a swinging with the punch kind of style.

I hate when people ask what the meaning of life is, like it's possible to break it down into one sentence. Theres so many fundamental questions that need answers as a prerequisite to accepting a life philosophy.
