Welcome to our backyard homestead! We’re a Gen X couple with a love for gardening, raising chickens, and living a more sustainable lifestyle. For over a decade, we’ve been growing fresh food in our 20 x 40 garden filled with raised beds and containers, alongside caring for our flock of 10 chickens. What started as a hobby has become a way of life, bringing us joy, health, and a deeper appreciation for the food we eat.
Over the years, we’ve learned how to preserve our harvest and refine our methods to make gardening easier and more rewarding as we grow older. Beyond the practical benefits, gardening and spending time with our chickens have become a form of therapy—good for both our mental and physical health.
In the next year to 18 months, we’re planning to relocate and start our homestead from scratch, and we’re excited to document the process. Until then, we’ll keep sharing what we’re doing at our current location.
