Thank you so much for your support today. I greatly dislike shining light on ugly situations, but I’ve watched too many mutuals and artists I admire go through theft/unlawful usage of their content to stay quiet on the matter. In good news, I was able to reach the artist in question and they have agreed to take down their song using “My Jolly Sailor Bold” from all platforms. It will take a few days for the removal to be fully implemented, but I’m grateful we could reach a peaceful resolution. Again, thank you all for your kindness and support as I navigated these rough waters. 🌊
The artist, Wonka_CTK, has used my vocals from "My Jolly Sailor Bold" in their own track, "They call me Sailor". They're profiting off of it on multiple platforms, and the only reason I even knew about this was because their publisher hit ME with a copyright claim. This is insane. I've disputed the claim on YouTube, and sent counter claims on videos using that song. I've also reached out to the artist themselves. Why do people think it's okay to sample someone else's work without even talking to them first? I understand the EDM (and even the pop) community uses samples from songs all the time. But my gosh, you can't just grab what you like and claim it as your own. Let's do better, fellow artists. We're all in this together.
