What a Surprise! ππΏ This is my 2-yr old container grapes. Bought it from Home Depot in a small bag with few vines/sticks. I am amazed how well it produced plenty of fruits.π. Last year, it didn't bear a single fruit. This was a surprise for grapes growing in a container. πΏπΌ Few things I did to keep it simple: Fertilize, prune to promote growth of fruiting canes, and when it started to fruit, i removed the small-sized fruits to focus the plant nutrient and energy on the bigger ones. What a wonderful experience growing grapes for the first time!ππΏ #containergardening #GrowingGrapes

EXPERIMENT : Growing MUSHROOM OUTDOOR! ππ³
Revisiting an old hobbyβhow I wish I had known back then how easy it can be to grow mushrooms outdoors!
About 10 years ago, My curiosity sparked extensive research into how mushrooms are grown and led me to a deep dive into mushroom cultivation from scratch. Back then, online resources were limited, and the process was anything but simple. I started by taking tissue samples from store-bought mushrooms, growing them on agar, then transferring to grain and so on. One key lesson I learned was how crucial a sterile environment is for indoor cultivation. Proper sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization were non-negotiable. Controlling humidity and oxygen levels was also essential for successful fruiting.
It was a fascinating process, especially watching them growβbut it demanded a lot of time and attention. After my first experiment, I eventually set it aside. Still, I missed that feeling of watching something so intricate and beautiful unfold.
Recently, Iβve started exploring mushroom cultivation againβonly this time, I want to let nature do more of the work. Growing mushrooms outdoors, closer to how they thrive in the wild, feels more aligned with what I enjoy now.
Nowadays, itβs much easier. Ready-to-grow kits and spawn bags are readily available. To avoid all the tedious lab work, I bought a grain spawn bag, a straw bale, and some hydrated lime. I soaked the straw overnight in a lime water solution (to sterilize), then drained it thoroughly. Using a spare raised bed under some trees, I laid down cardboard, then layered straw and spawn lasagna-style.
After about 18β20 days, they began to fruit. Trying to grow them in logs too. Welcome to the fascinating world of fungi! Let's Grow!!ππ³π

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!π±π¦
When soil and hydroponic garden grows together!π±π±π¦π¦
What are you planting in Fall?
Testing this new set up in fall season, burying 5-gallon buckets using Kratky method as well as growing in soil in raised bed garden.
WHAT ARE ADVANTAGES IN BURYING THE RESERVOIR/BUCKET/CONTAINER GROWING HYDROPONICALLY.
1. Natural insulation : The underground provides natural insulation to the reservoir. Therefore, it helps to maintain the nutrient solution temperature which ideal for nutrient uptake for optimal growth.
2. Reduced Evaporation and Algae growth : By being underground, the nutrient solution is less exposed to direct sunlight. Minimizing water evaporation and algae growth.
3. Reduced plant stress and Oxygen depletion : High/Low temperatures can lead to plant stress and reduce oxygen levels.
Any overflow when heavy rainfall will feed the soil garden too.
Also, a great option to enjoy gardening even you have a heavy clay or rocky soil.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH THIS GARDEN SET UP AND WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND GROWING IN IT? π±π±π¦π¦

For those who have been following the carrot experiment in water bottle. it's been a while, but here are the results, I tried the same method with radishes too. For the carrots, I planted them in fall and overwintered them (most of the time been neglected, got rained on, snowed on and battled most of natures elements in winter time but apparently survivedπ) There were two seedlings in one bottle, could have been better if only one seedling. I plan to put together a video on this method and hopefully to publish it sometime soon. Have a great weekend everyone! LET'S GROW!π±π

EXPERIMENT IN PROGRESS...This will BLOW your MIND! A possibility to start your seeds or even grow your microgreens without a MESS! NO SOIL needed. NO more FLIES!! around and best of all its Food safe! The growing medium is made of a Food Grade Powder widely used in kitchens. While itβs edible! I suggest not to eat it when used as a growing medium. Any guesses?π I'll be posting updates in the upcoming days. LETβS GROW! Happy Gardening! π±π
