We at the St. Paul Center would like to wish you a happy Easter!
"When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there... Then the other disciple also went in... and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead" (Jn 20:6,8-9).
We are the children of the apostolic witnesses. That is why we still gather on the first day of every week to celebrate this feast of the empty tomb, to give thanks for âChrist our life.â Baptized into His death and Resurrection, we live the heavenly life of the risen Christ, our lives âhidden with Christ in God.â

The tomb was empty.Â
In the early morning darkness of that first Easter, there was only confusion for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. But as the daylight spread, they saw the dawning of a new creation.
They saw and believed. And we await the day they promised would comeâwhen we, too, âwill appear with Him in glory.â

Every year in Lent the Church directs our thoughts to Jesus on the Cross. This is the sacred center of everything we believe and celebrate as Catholic Christians.
Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. He took to Himself a human nature so that He could love the Father and the human family to the fullest extent possible as a man and thus pay the debts of love that our sins have incurred.
As true man, Christ acted in our name and on our behalf; as true God, His actions were infinitely efficacious.

At the Last Supper, we see our Lord washing the feet of His disciples. As a great act of humilityâ that Peter initially tried to deny Jesusâ the Lord saw it through for "the Son of man came not to be served but to serve" (Mt 20:28).
But this great act of service was also a command given by the Divine Master.
Christ, extending His Priesthood to His Apostles, gave them the authority and grace to love and serve just as He did for them.

With His final breath, Jesus entrusts His soul to the Father in an act of total surrender.
Throughout this Lenten program of reflecting on the seven last words of Jesus, you also have had access to beautiful sacred music to go deeper in your reflection on our Lord's Passion. This week, as we ponder the seventh and final saying of Christ, we are able to listen to the tracks: Anima Christi and Kyrie XVI.
The Anima Christi serves as a prayer of profound union with Christ, inviting us to place our own lives into His hands. Kyrie XVI, a simple yet powerful plea for mercy, echoes the humility and trust required to give ourselves fully to God.
This Holy Week, be with Christ at the foot of the Cross.

This Friday, we not only reflect upon the Crucifixion and death of our Lord, but we're reminded that we must live by the Cross. Every day we must pick up our crossesânot to merely sufferâ but to be transformed by it through Christ's Paschal Mystery.
We reflect upon the Cross not just as a reminder of what Christ endured for us, but also to see the Cross as the means to the glory and joy to come.

These words spoken by Our Lord, âI thirst,â serve not only to fulfill the Scriptures but to complete them. Jesus, by these words and by His self-sacrifice for our sake, consummates all of salvation history and brings us into the New Covenant.

The St. Paul Center is a nonprofit research and educational institute that promotes life-transforming Scripture study from the heart of the Church. The Center serves clergy and laity, students and scholars, with research and study tools.
Our goal is to be a teacher of teachers. We want to raise up a new generation of priests who are fluent in the Bible and lay people who are biblically literate. For us, this means more than helping people to know their way around the Bible. It means equipping them to enter into the heart of the living Word of God.
We read the Bible from the heart of the Church, in light of the Churchâs Liturgy and living Tradition. In this way, we hope to help people experience the heart-to-heart encounter that Jesusâ disciples experienced on that first Easter night, when they knew Him in the breaking of the bread: "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to usâŚwhile He opened to us the Scriptures?" (see Luke 24:13-37)
