Dassehra or Vijayadashami is the celebration of the victory of Sri Rama over the ten-headed Ravana to rescue Mother Sita from his captivity. The ten heads of Ravana represent our five Karmendriyas and five Jnanendriyas, which are entangled in the mire of sense pleasures and attachments. When we control and get mastery over all the ten Indriyas, we attain the knowledge of the Self, whose effulgence was obscured by these Indriyas.

On the Day 2 of Sharannavaratri, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai expounded on the four ashramas or four stages of life as described in ancient Hindu texts:

BRAHMACHARYA
The first stage, where a person is a celibate student and lives with their guru is like Flower Buds.

GRUHASTHA
The second stage, where a person is a married householder and leads a family life is flowering period.

VANAPRASTA
The third stage, where a person gives up their worldly life and goes into the forest to meditate is like fruit formed.

SANYASA
The fourth stage, where a person renounces all worldly ties and becomes an ascetic is a complete ripened Fruit.

The goal of the ashrama system is to attain liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth. The Vedic society classified life into these four spiritual stages to teach regulated sense gratification.
