Do you prefer episodes predominantly with voice over (VO) (efficient) or lots of pieces to camera (PTC) (more personal but time inefficient), an equal balance, or the norm thus far of mostly VO and occasional chatty pieces to camera?

I need to get approval for factory facility clips to be used in the newest episode (think a LOT of carbon fibre) so in the meantime here's proof of spectacularly industrious hard work.

The battery discharge analyser finally arrived. And yes that's a sodium battery! And yes they can't spell MENU.

And I made an updated, improved Bernard shell prototype plate. I'll jump on it until it breaks.

I'll get it online mid-week. You can breathe in the meantime.

I've lost my voice this weekend and despite two tries, I can't record the voice-over in time for release today. Sorry! Will get it up ASAP, but probably not Monday as no-one watches YouTube on Mondays.

I also need my voice to function on Tuesday for a speaking event.....

Rest well, good people of the channel.

A new episode about to go live - it's not Alan, or Arctic expedition specific, and do take my word for it that it's not purely generated by the desire to troll a channel troll (well, only partially).

Anyhow, it'll be a one off, and it is/was a coincidence that I was contacted for a (not offensively cheap) partnership offer. I was genuinely intrigued as to whether TEMU was a complete disaster or simply a pragmatic, efficient way to source Chinese goods. Without occasional paid episodes like this, I won't be able to fund the channel - that's the long and short of it.

Coming up, a partial reveal of the new vehicle design and build concept. That's exciting. And, a dehydrated packet expedition food episode showing that DIY can save 90% of the price of shop-bought ones, and be good for your soul... Also, working on an Arguably.

Oh, and I'm popping up to see Alan briefly this weekend. Will send pics...

Cheers all.

**Call for ideas and feedback**

With the culmination of the 'Alan' series, I'm keen to ensure the channel keeps momentum and focus. To help me conserve what's good and improve what's not, I'm looking for feedback. On subjects, on filming style, on how I structure a series, on editing, whatever you have noticed/liked/disliked.

e.g. balancing the ratio of pieces to camera vs voiceover on top of action, or use of wide/close shots, or the extent to which I give recaps or overall views vs. just getting straight to the detail.

Keen to see what you lot come up with. Cheers.

**LIVE ONLINE EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT - THIS SUNDAY**

EVENT #1: ‘THE AMERICAS’ EAST COAST - SUNDAY 2nd JUNE 2024 - 4pm Eastern Daylight, 5pm Brasilia Standard, 9pm BST

To pick up the enthusiasm, but practical limitations, of last year's attempt for live events, we're going online.

I'm planning a whole series, so don't worry if your timezone isn't covered this time. I'll make sure no-one is left out, whether you're in Peru, South Africa, or Tasmania. The platform will be Zoom, and you don't need an account to join.

Click here www.alexhibbert.com/aho for the webpage and all the details (just scroll past the merch links and fundraiser section), or if the details here are enough, a direct £6 ticket link. app.superpayit.com/payment-link/initiate/VKy-0oE/. Confirmation details will be emailed.

Looking forward to chatting with you live this Sunday! Bye.

People of the channel - this happened! (Alan afloat, not the rain...)

I won't rush out an episode this weekend, as I want to do it properly (most of you deserve nothing less than my A-game), but rest assured the great journey of Alan has rebegun.

I will only run the AIS when underway, but you should start to see pings on www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:…

If you live on Scotland's E/NE coast and would like to see Alan en route, just wing over an email and if you don't sound totally deranged, we'll try and share expected travel times and waypoints.

ALSO. Marina costs (particularly at WIck) are going to be brutally expensive - so any assistance is gratefully (grudgingly from the great orange lump himself) received. Link here: www.alexhibbert.com/aho for options, or just a quicker option here: pay.superpayit.com/alexander-hibbert

Cheers team.

No episode today, people of the channel. Sorry.

But there's a reason. I've been hard at work completing and prepping two excitements.

People of the channel, for those of you after some less Alan/Arctic orientated thoughts, my newest episode is up on the other channel, Arguably.

New channels take a while to really kick off (subscriber and views-wise) so any support, views and shares would be much appreciated.

REQUEST FOR ADVICE

Tech Problem: AV/monitor/touchscreen experts on here, I'd like to mine your knowledge and experience please!

I have a new 14" touchscreen driven by a simple CCTV unit with HDMI signal and USB control.

But, the cursor doesn't track beneath a moving finger, and doesn't just lag behind, but instead acts as if the screen were smaller than it is. It works fine with a mouse. The screen is set to 1080p, which matches the CCTV's output.

The touchscreen DOES accurately respond to finger touch when using its own menu system in the corner, but not the image sent from the CCTV. It's also fine when used as a laptop external monitor.

The CCTV and screen are simple, with no obvious 'recalibrate' options in menus.

Any ideas? Thanks.
