I hope you lovely lot are having a great week. I just wanted to drop in and let you know that tomorrows video will one a review of a battery that I think may be the solution to people, who, like how I started, are in a tiny shed with no electricity. But dont worry, in the video I also go on the the search for the best style of mallet by making a few. So there is woodworking in there too. The reason I say this is because there thumb nail and title may not have the mallet build bit included. I hope you enjoy it. And then next video we are back to normal.

I just want to take a second and say a huge congratulations to Alex over at Grey Otter Studios.
He is a huge part of our Start Making community and a while ago he decided to start his own channel. With a mixture of beginner build, hand tool ASMR videos and down to earth tool reviews, he has grafted his way to a hugely impressive land mark of 1k subs and 4000 watch time hours. A feat that should not be under estimated. If you have not seen the channel before I have popped the latest video below. Possibly the easiest table saw sled you could imagine, while still performing well.

Quick snap from the results of today's Laser video. Thank you to everyone who watched. I know it is not totally in line with the usual content but I was under obligation. The spots for freebees are very nearly full, so again thank you for all of your requests. Anyone getting French Cleats please feel free to feed back any improvements. They are still an early ish prototype made by someone with very low computer skills. But as you can see a load are already packaged and will be sent Monday. Oh, and a bit of free T-Shirt love for ‪@ENCurtis‬ . Great Merch. Have a great weekend whatever you are doing.

Howdy Everyone. I hope that you are having a lovely week. I am sticking with the blog thing for a little while longer to see how it is received. In truth I am enjoying just writing whatever I am thinking about. Nothing like making a video where the worry is how it will be received and spread by YT.
Anyway. This weeks blog is about the life cycle of a video. Something that may interest a few. Or not.
I hope you enjoy it if you get a few minutes spare to read.
Have a great week and next video is up on Saturday. The long awaited Shed build costs. Sorry for the delay.

I dont do this a lot and maybe I should do it more. But a friend of the channel Michael Willson has just set up a FB for his side hustle and if there are people in the UK looking to support one of our own then in my humble opinion this one deserves a click, a like and a follow.
Michael, like so many of you has supported this channel from pretty much day one and deserves the support in return. good luck bud.

Im sure a few of you have spotted a few differences today. I have struggled to get a video done since the last and have taken a 3 week gap again. But I happened to have it finished today so I released it as a test to see if a Friday release is a better time. Im not sure it will make a huge difference but I thought it was worth explaining. I have also posted a comment about the website. www.start-making.com. I have had this for ages and done very little with it. But as the channel grows I wanted to create a base camp of sorts for everything start Making. Im not entirely sure what to do with it long term but for now there are 2 cool new areas that I have made.
Tools I use - this is just everything in one place with some videos to add guides. Nothing new for the long term viewer but a more well rounded review of some of the tools I recommend and all of the ones I have in the workshop.

www.start-making.com/tools

Blogs - Im not a great writer but I thought it would be fun to post a blog every week or so on different subjects. Nothing too complicated or long winded but more of a mind dump of things that are not entirely video worthy.

With that in mind the 4th Blog went on there today. Titled. What does it take to be a woodworking YouTuber?

If you have any feedback for me please post here or drop me an email. As with everything I do, I am flying blind.
Have a great weekend folks.

Ok folks, so 2 pretty cool things happened today. Not only did @ENCurtis reach out and comment on my latest video but also another channel ‪@wittworks‬ shared the video. I said before that this video is not about me and my channel and I meant it, truly. The fact that people have shared this with their communities and visited the focused channels is the most real example of how supportive the woodworking community is. But what is bigger than that is that this video has almost as many comments after 16k views than my best performing video with 400k views. Now that is support. And that is what I honestly hoped would happen when I followed the amazing example set for me. ‪@BustedKnuckleWoodworks‬ and ‪@inlandwoodandresin‬ , take a bow. And now for the point of this post. And it may fall on deaf ears but I am calling out any channel in this woodworking space to take a few minutes out and release a story on Instagram, or a short on YouTube or whatever you want. Shine your well earn spot light on one or more channels that you have discovered during your tenure in this amazing space. I can't tell you how much positive and uplifting feedback I have received from doing so. From channels and viewers alike.

What an amazing response to the latest video. Thank you all. Big shout out to The Garage Workshop for spreading the positivity in their latest short. Great channel and one of the ones that I shortlisted before the very difficult process of picking just 5. We are so lucky to have such an amazing range of content creators in our space, all of whom are immensely talented and engaging. What an uplifting weekend. Thank you.

So..... Every time I post a video there is a hope over the few days that follow that the video will get enough views to not make me question what I am doing. I have been fortunate that you lovely people have supported every video I have done for so long. Some videos I have even not checked on their progress for as long as 30 mins on the day of their release.
This week is different. I dont really want the views for myself, this week I have my fingers crossed that the video gets out to at least half of the viewers that Lee at busted knuckle woodworks and Jerred at Inland wood and resin's did. That way it gives YouTube the kick to find an audience that isnt already aware of the channels mentioned.
Hard to ask for people to share it when I will also benefit but genuinely if you are a person who shares videos, and I dont really ask this about my own ones as a like and a comment is more than enough, but if you are a person who shares, then this one will do more good that any other I have done, in my humble opinion.
And in no way am I saying that these channels need or have asked for my help because that is certainly not the case as I am no more successful or am in no way 'bigger' or more experienced than they are.
Im just keeping the positivity in woodworking YouTube ball rolling in the hope that someone else will pick it up and roll it again. Have a good weekend folks.
