Can TRUE craftsmanship still be found in todayā€™s manufacturing world?

In my experience, Vietnam offers a unique blend of local artisans and workshops, many of whom resemble artists more than conventional manufacturers.

In many regions, you'll encounter families and artisans who have practiced traditional crafts for generations. A great example is Bat Trang, a village near Hanoi famous for its high-quality ceramics and pottery.

This week, our Movetoasia team is accompanying a group of European buyers to source unique products from these artisans and traditional craft villages, which they plan to ship and sell in their retail stores.

Visiting these areas often uncovers hidden gems, showcasing the artistry passed down through generations. These products are not only unique but also of exceptional quality, reflecting the rich heritage of Vietnam.

Balancing clients and team leadership ...

It's one of the most important aspects of my day-to-day activities these days, and it's actually quite stimulating!

Last week was packed with factory tours, taking clients to engage with new potential manufacturers. Itā€™s a time when Iā€™m hands-on, closely managing projects, and working on the ground with my operational team or customers.

However, it's not something I can do every week, as focusing on overseeing the MoveToAsia back-office team and marketing activities is key. This week is dedicated to catching up on necessary training, strategizing, and planning for the last trimester. Brainstorming, skill development, or simply spending time with my key team members is just as important as nurturing existing clients and partners.

This week also marked a significant milestone, with France becoming the first European country to establish a comprehensive partnership with Vietnam. This means even more projects coming to Vietnam, and itā€™s crucial for us to maintain our standards of excellence and commitment as we look toward 2025.

You can't build something big alone, but together you're strongerā€”and it all starts with your internal resources.

šŸ‡«šŸ‡· šŸ‡»šŸ‡³ France has officially become the first EU country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam!

As a company that combines the strengths of both Vietnamese and French cultures, we are pleased to see this historic milestone. This partnership strengthens the bonds between our nations and aligns perfectly with our mission at MoveToAsia.

As a key facilitator for European SMEs and Vietnamese manufacturers, we believe this strategic alliance will further enhance trade and business connections between the two regions.

"MOVETOASIA - WE ARE DOERS"

Weā€™ve always promoted the relationship between France and Vietnam, and weā€™re committed to continuing this work for a brighter future.

Is working with subcontractors always a great deal?

It's no secret that many big companies rely on subcontractors to enhance their operations.

For example, a furniture factory might outsource part of its production to a small workshop specializing in a specific product. As a foreign buyer, it might seem like a good idea to work directly with such subcontractors.

This week, our MoveToAsia team organized a 3-day tour for one of our European clients looking to diversify their manufacturing in Vietnam. Our role isnā€™t just to visit established factories but also to identify key subcontractors that could potentially become valuable partners.

The primary advantage that comes to mind is pricing: subcontractors are often more flexible and offer lower costs compared to well-known factories. However, managing projects with small-scale workshops can be more challenging. Their focus tends to be on serving large factories rather than directly catering to foreign clients.

Itā€™s always a balancing act. Reliability, quality, and dedication are just as important as competitive pricing, and finding the right mix is the challenge we aim to solve for our clients. Personally, I find the process excitingā€”thereā€™s always something to overcome, and thatā€™s where the real value lies.

Is pricing really the most crucial element of retail success? I donā€™t think so.

Picture this: you step into a store with just a handful of items on the shelves. Sure, they may be offered at a great price, but would that alone be enough to keep you interested? Personally, I love having optionsā€”exploring different styles, patterns, models, and ranges.

As a shop owner, whether online or offline, offering a wide variety of products opens the door to repeat business. It gives your customers the freedom to choose and ensures they don't feel forced into settling for the default option. From a business perspective, diversifying your product range not only boosts average order values but also enhances inventory management. You can restock efficiently, launch seasonal products, and experiment with new ideas.

This Monday, our MoveToAsia team just wrapped up a shipment for one of our retail clients. We coordinated with seven suppliers, handling everything from purchasing and packaging to logistics.

The complexity? Consolidating all the items into a single containerā€”saving on freight costs while ensuring everything arrives smoothly.

This level of organization takes effort, but the rewards? Absolutely worth it for any seller looking to streamline operations and maximize profitability.

Have you ever tried dried fruits from the Mekong Delta? The most common one is dried banana, but did you know you can also find pineapple, mango, durian, coconut, and more?

A few weeks ago, our MoveToAsia sourcing team conducted a due diligence tour on behalf of one of our European clients, who was interested in manufacturing such products in the region. During these tours, we engage in discussions with key representatives from factories, assess their production lines, and evaluate their processes.

Itā€™s fascinating to get a firsthand look at what some of these small-scale processing factories can offer and the opportunities available for food brands to source local fruits and transform them into quality products. Check out our video here : https://youtu.be/YLR4jXgu-Oc

Whatā€™s your favorite flavor? Personally, I enjoy dragon fruit ā€“ it has a beautiful color and a perfectly balanced sweetness.

I always enjoy connecting with entrepreneurs who have been in the game for a while in the same field. Their experience, impact, and connections often come with a sense of maturity and straightforwardness.

Even though I founded MoveToAsia some time ago, thereā€™s still so much for me and my team to learn about the vast potential of manufacturing in Vietnam. Thatā€™s why each conversation with these industry veterans is an invaluable opportunity to immerse myself in practical knowledge, trends, and insights shaping the landscape today.

Itā€™s a two-way learning processā€”understanding the clientā€™s needs, goals, and challenges while navigating factory dynamics, feasibility, and innovation. These meetings always leave us with fresh ideas, clear direction, and a roadmap for tackling upcoming challenges head-on.

Last week, our team had a productive day at VIFA ASEAN - Vietnam Asean International Furniture & Home Accessories Fair , connecting with suppliers from across Southeast Asia (Vietnam, China, Thailand, etc.).

They offer a wide range of products with unique designs ā€“ wooden pieces, home decor, fabric, and even coconut handicrafts!
We appreciated our discussions with old and new partners during the fair and were able to quickly equip ourselves with new industry updates and trends.

Stay tuned for more updates on our sourcing journey!

How many straws can you actually fit into one container?

Our MoveToAsia team just shipped a container filled with biodegradable straws made from green grass. This natural grass, called Lepironia, is grown in the Mekong Delta, a region in Vietnam with the ideal climate and humidity levels for its cultivation. By processing this grass, we also support local farmers in the area.

The number of straws that can be packed into a 20-ft container generally ranges from 2 to 2.5 million, depending on their length and the type of packaging used. In this shipment, we combined 13 cm cocktail straws with standard 20 cm straws wrapped in bio-plastic packaging, for a total of 2,555,000 straws. The diameters typically vary between 5 to 7 mm, as it's a natural product.

Our shipments may still be considered small in scale compared to those of large conglomerates, but Iā€™m proud to contribute to the global exposure of Vietnamese products while promoting often-overlooked natural and eco-friendly solutions.
