New York based composer, Richard D. Russell writes classical music and composes for musical theater.
A multi-year ASCAPplus winner, Richard D. Russell’s music has been performed internationally and at prominent venues around New York.
On 2017, he won a “Best Music” festival award for his work on IT TAKES A RAINBOW, which was presented at the Midtown International Theater Festival that year. Along with his collaborator, Emily Clare Thompson (book & lyrics) he has written 7 musicals for young audiences.
He earned his BA in Music Composition from Blackburn College (Illinois), graduating magna cum laude, and earned his Masters at SUNY Empire State. He is also an active lecturer, having presented lectures on the interdisciplinary nature of creativity at Mannes College of Music, to Ethical Culture Fieldston School (NY), the New York Composers Circle, and to the East Hanover School District (NJ).
