My new favorite cardio workout – when I'm short on time – is 10 minutes of jumping rope with burpees.

Here's the catch.

You have to do one additional burpee each time you mess up.
- 1 mistake = 1 burpee
- Next mistake = 2 burpees
- Next mistake = 3 burpees
- All the way up to 10 and back down
- Do 10 twice

If you mess up a lot, it'll be a long 10 minutes for you (just like it usually is for me).

Give the workout a try and follow along with me in my new video if you want to take your mind off of it

My first mobility routine is up!

This is a 20 minute lower body routine that I've been doing to improve my strength in varying ranges of motion. It's helped my knees, my hips, and my back.

Most importantly, it's helped keep injuries away while I wrestle & do jiujitsu.

We recently started a mobility class at Theory Jiujitsu Studio and incorporate exercises from this routine in it as well.

I strongly believe that every single grappler should commit a couple sessions a week to mobility. Hopefully this routine and the others I have will help.

My latest video is my most recent wrestling instructional – No Penetration Step, No Problem: Low Risk Takedowns Without Hitting Your Knees.

It's for those of you who want detailed instruction on how to do simple, effective takedowns without the penetration step.

Check it out and leave a comment with any feedback!

I'm leading a mobility class at my jiujitsu gym on Sunday.

Combat sports need a whole lot more of it baked into weekly programming.

We're going through these bodyweight exercises

Exercises
● Elephant Walk – 2 sets x 20 reps
● Patrick Step – 2 sets x 10 reps (each side)
● ATG Split Squat – 2 sets x 10 reps (each side)
● Cossack Squat – 2 sets x 10 reps (each side)
● Middle split pancake pulse – 2 sets x 10 reps
● Tibialis Raises – 2 sets x 20 reps
● Reverse Nordic Curls – 3 sets of 6-10 reps
● Seated pigeon position – 2 sets x 20 reps (each side)

Cool Down
● Open Hydrant – 2 sets x 8 reps
● Couch Stretch – 1 set x 1 min (per side)
● Outer glute stretch – 1 set x 1 min (per side)

These have helped me unlock all sorts of skills like the splits, pistol squats, etc. Especially once I added in weights.

Most importantly, they've kept me on the mats feeling my best.

Should I make a video of the routine so you can do it, too?

I recently shared my approach to building an effective wrestling game for jiujitsu.

My goal is to bridge the gap between both sports. This will help jiujitsu athletes improve and make wrestling more popular. Everyone should feel confident starting a match on their feet.

If you want to improve your stand-up game, look no further than this episode!

P.S Subscribe to The Grappling Podcast's channel to learn about all facets of jiujitsu. Their podcast is highly underrated.

If you're a jiujitsu athlete starting to learn wrestling...ignore the penetration step. At least for your first few classes. Focus on building up your confidence with takedowns that don't require hitting your knees.

Find out why in my new video

Wrestling and jiujitsu apparel needs to hop on the natural fiber movement.

Research has shown synthetic clothes cause neurological, mental, reproductive, and endocrine issues. And here we are sweating in them every practice and competition.

Using synthetic fibers like polyester are cheap because they're the most manufactured fibers in the world. I don't blame businesses for using them...but it's time to provide quality.

As of now, I only know of one company trying to make natural alternatives - Alchemical (www.alchemical.com.au/)

I'm actually wearing a teal rashguard from them in the pic from my last competition below.

- It's the most comfortable rashguard I've ever worn
- It's made from bamboo
- It's been very durable

They also make natural gis.

No, I'm not affiliated with them (wish I was lol). They're proving that it can be done.

I plan on making a video about this soon.

To learn more about how toxic our grappling wear is, check out an article I wrote about it back in December (www.jordanlaster.com/ditch-synthetic-clothes-for-o…)

What do you think?
