This golden beauty is ‘The poets wife” -(Auswhirl) from david Austin roses
It’s big, bold and beautiful, producing some of the largest blooms within the garden. They are a wonderful Rich , golden yellow and benefit from one of the strongest fragrances currently within the David collections.
The poets, wife forms a large and informal shrub, which I let ramble about in a mixed border, popping up here and popping up there, you may need to consider giving this one some support if you want it to conform to a more disciplined structure but in my garden it reaches around 5’ x 5’ with long, arching, graceful stems
it has Rich emerald green foliage, and this beauty does come with a sting in her tail as it really is quite thorny
Vigourous, healthy and very disease resistant. This is a wonderful addition to a mixed border and the perfect rose to cut and bring into the house where it can be enjoyed up close and personal.
It does equally well in full sun and in partial shade where it will still flower incredibly well receiving just 4 to 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. In fact, with a little bit of shade, the flower colour can be intensified and be much more golden where in full sun, the colour bleaches slightly to a more sherbet yellow
The fragrance is Rich , enticing and fruity with hints of sherbet and citrus

“Thomas a Becket” -(Auswinston) from david Austin roses
A really different, and most unusual rose for the avid collector, and in my opinion, best grown in a large pot, elevating it up off of the ground, where you can enjoy its magnificent flowers
Closely related to the species roses, it produces absolutely enormous peony like flowers, which hang pendulous from upright, strong and woody stems, the flowers often reaching between 4 and 5 inches in diameter, they are a very strong deep, crimson magenta pink almost red in colour
fully established, the plant reaches around 4’ x 4’, which is quite large to be placed in a pot, but the nodding habit of the flowers means that lifting it into an elevated position, really means you can fully enjoy its flowers
Which are produced in, just one or two flushes throughout the summer
The fragrance is exceptional, Rich , strong and fruity with notes of citrus and old rose, mixed with hybrid tea, freshness

“Vanessa Bell”-(Auseasel) from david Austin roses
A small compact and virtually thornless little rose absolutely perfect for growing at the front of a border, or in a container if you have a confined space
Producing very soft and fresh light lime green foliage which compliments the very light, fresh, lemon coloured flowers. Vanessa is always one of the first roses in flower in the garden.
creating a nice shaped shrub around 3 1/2 feet tall, around 2 1/2 feet wide, flowers are produced in several flushes
The blooms flowers open from pink and peachy tinged buds, into a deeply cupped loosely formed flowers packed full of petals, which once fully open slowly fades to a very heavy cream almost white around the edges
Personally, I found that this rose benefits from really deep, mulching, Focused watering and a good liquid feed. After its first flush. This will help stave off a little bit of the stress caused by this small plant carrying such large blooms early in the season. It will then take a little bit of a break before it produces another flush of flowers later in the season.
The fragrance is light, fresh and clean with notes of green tea, lemon and lime zest, which Eco, the clean and fresh colour palette of the entire shrub
