Wow; suddenly a flood of inquiries, both here and on my website as to where I am and what I'm doing, and why I'm not posting.

I decided to take Nov and Dec off from my rather rigorous posting schedule, to learn my new camera and figure out new ways to handle my workflow since I also have a full time job and 20 students!

I'll be resuming my posts in January.

Meantime, all my Patrons knew this all along because they were savvy to my behind the scenes posts that occur at www.patreon.com/halweeks!

I look forward to returning in 2021. I have about 5 pages of ideas for new topics, and we'll be revisiting some old ones too.

Thanks everyone for your concerns. I'm excited to get started. In fact, I'll be shooting my first videos in the week between Christmas and New Years.

See you all soon!

Hal

I am wondering who watches, and why? It would really help me if you could let me know who you are!

Hi Everybody. I'm uploading extras this week...one just posted yesterday, one's uploading now, and after that one will come another (a product endorsement of sorts). You can look for MUSIC from me this week...something I don't post enough of....just me playing....but I still have to record (or livestream) those. Busy busy busy! Thanks for watching, thanks for posting so much great content of your own! See you soon!

Wondering where I went? Well, as you know, I moved to Seattle, and took a job with d'Aigle Autoharps.... It took me several months to find the right apartment....about 3 weeks ago I landed one, and have been all wrapped up in getting into it. Now I've come back to Denver to collect all our stuff and move it there in a truck. There's been no free time to work on videos. Don't worry, all is well, and I'll be back with more content for my viewers! What is life if you can't take a break from your own YouTube channel? I'm always glad that so many are benefiting from my posts.

Moving is NOT easy.

Seemingly the usual emails didn't go out when the latest vid posted for some reason. Anyway, Part 2 of beginning rhythm study is out for Stalking the Wild autoharp. Important one: compound time!

Well, I reached that point where YouTube has approved me to "monetize" my videos....which means, If I so choose, advertisers will swoop in and place ads for who knows what at the beginning of my videos (or even in the middle!).
I have just finished going in and blocking each and every video (one at a time, no one to do it as batch) to keep them from doing it. It took almost two hours of mind numbing brain sleep to go into "edit video" and click the little switch that disallows ads on that video, then saving the change, then returning to the video list, and repeating.

I could have passed on the "monetization" option entirely; but with it also comes some pretty great little OTHER features...like being able to put a "card" (read: button) in my videos that will link to my website, or over here to Patreon. That means I won't necessarily have to mention this stuff up front.

Sometimes it seems like I spend half the video saying: Remember to Subscribe! Remember I teach! Remember Patreon! Remember the Index! And where to go to find all these things. Now there can just be little buttons that pop up while I'm teaching. (Though I reserve the right to say it as well, because that might work better.

Also, there will be the option, when and if I start live streaming from YouTube, to place a "tip jar". These are all good perks that come with the monetization.

I waived the ads because it's fractions of a penny per thousand views, IF people watch the whole ad without clicking "skip ad". Kinda pointless, unless your views are in the millions. Some folks are. I continue to serve the little bitty autoharp community.

Yet while I continue to make videos for the AH community, you'll start to see some that are NOT autoharp centric...music theory, music history and such....those are an attempt to play to a larger crowd than the AH community.

I'll be spending the next few weeks learning how to set up all these new functions on YT...it's a big learning curve.

I'm also trying to learn how to use "Sibelius" (music notation behemoth software) better, and do things like capturing it on video recording while it runs. There is a "play" function in Sibelius, that includes a cursor going across the music and highlighting where you are. I'd like to be able to capture that motion on "film" and use it in my videos. It would allow things like teaching chord and melody changes from a score, which would be great to be able to do. I think I may have to load more RAM into my computer to run the Sibelius program AND the video capture program. And I have to learn how to block one of the program's access to the sound card, because they both want exclusive access to the sound card and they don't want to play together.

This is the kind of "learning curve" I'm up against here at SWA central. I'm trying to learn to make things look slick and work smooth; because believe it or not, I have OTHER things I'm doing besides sitting here 8 hours a day and making Stalking the Wild Autoharp. I want things to be as easy and fast as possible, but I'd like to learn to use some of the software tech that's available to me to make a nicer product.

So, I was just "awarded" the ability to use this community channel, and I'm sorta wondering about it....if I post here, who sees it? Subscribers, check in! Are you seeing this? Non Subscribers? Can we talk?
