Strap your granny to a chair! We are about to do some SCIENCE! - and the only thing better than SCIENCE is MORE SCIENCE!

The current hypothesis is that polls such as these are sent out to people who are not subscribers to the channels that created them. Is this true? Only if stout-hearted folk such as your excellent self rise to the call and respond to this poll can the SCIENCE be done, and the truth known.

Please select an option from those below. Please also ignore the next paragraph of gibberish, which has been included in order to flag down the attention of the YABS (the YouTube Algorithm Slave-Bots).

There are those who might say that were I to bandy about popular search terms such as Kpop, music, asmr, news, culture, fashion, shopping, list, best, ultimate, shark, baby, and make-up, or more political terms like lives, woke, speech, left, right, matter, election, and black, then this would be a flagrant attempt to exploit the YouTube algorithm to gain attention.

So why might I compose a post such as this, with its clearly needless uses of meme, mma, wwf, lofi, cnn and wwe, which presumably stand for something or other?

Indeed, terms that hint at conflict, such as argument, versus, controversy, replies, reacts, and dispute, or hyperbole such as outrage, shocking, amazing, incredible, and unbelievable (which I would normally put in single inverted commas) , or popular channels such as Joe Rogan, Pewdiepie, Vlogbrothers, Buzzfeed, Vevo, Fox, Critical Role, and Casey Neistat, might also be seen by the more discerning reader as an unfair and unbecoming misuse of the 'community' features on this site.

Well, it seems that the YouTube 'community tab' is broken, and if it is, then a post like this will get colossally more attention than it could possibly deserve, and your time may be wasted. But all is not woe, dear reader. Fume not yet, for you may learn that you are able to do some good, and in so doing, you may find that you feel a warm and fuzzy glow as you contemplate that you have done your righteous bit for a better tomorrow.

Uncalled-for mentions of popular video games such as Call of Duty, Halo, Minecraft, Fortnight, Borderland 3, Among Us, Steam, Nintendo, and Sniper Wolf might at both first and second sight be taken for the writer's trying to grab the attention of the bots running things these days, as part of a cynical ploy that thought little of the wants or needs of the many potential readers.

There is a campaign to get the system fixed, and the method is to abuse it, thus forcing YouTube's hand. At present, large corporations are in the best position to exploit the way community messages are sent out. Community messages commonly reach far more people that the videos made by content creators, and this is not how YouTube should be. A community message also affects the chances of a user's being recommended a video by the channel that sent out the community message VASTLY more than the quality of the channel's videos, and that can't be right.

It may be neither hilarious nor even funny to include the names of popular acts and entertainers such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, SNL, Eminem, Mr Bean, David Attenborough, Celia Johnson, Stephen Colbert, Ariana Grande, Jake Paul, John Oliver, Trevor Noah, Trisha Paytas, Jenna Marbles, David Dobrik, Seth Meyers, or any other people of whom I had not heard until I just looked them up on-line in a list of popular search terms.

If you are not a subscriber to the channel Lindybeige, then it would be inappropriate for YouTube to send you this message, since you would not be part of the Lindybeige community. However, it seems that YouTube sends out these messages to anyone it thinks might conceivably be interested. This wastes a lot of man-hours that could be put to better use, such as watching channels that we do actually like.

To do your bit, you could comment on this message (because interaction with a message further boosts its affect on the all-mighty algorithm to which we are becoming slaves), and then 'like' each others' comments, and do all that sort of stuff that draws the attention of the bots whose gaze are like the eyes of Sauron looking for The One Ring.

I hope that you do not feel annoyed to have been sent this message. If you are a Lindybeige subscriber, then by commenting on it or 'liking' it, you will be doing a sweet favour to the channel which you (until this moment?) already liked. If, on the other hand, you were not a subscriber, had never even heard of the channel, and are frankly infuriated by this intrusion, then may I recommend that you comment below? You will be registering you irritation officially, and also aiding the SCIENCE behind this by showing that it is indeed true that the wrong people are being shown these messages, which is evidence that the YouTubers' Union could then show to YouTube in a bid to make sure that this stops.

For those of you who can stand the excitement, tonight at 11 p.m. British Summer Time, and 6 p.m. for the hosts in Canada, I'll be appearing on a live-streamed event with the makers of 'Shadow of the Conqueror' - a pilot for a film version of a fantasy novel by Shad of Shadiversity. For reasons unfathomable for all but them, the producers have cast me in it. Filming starts when the quarantine lifts... i.e. we don't know. I've not actually read the novel, so I'll be asking questions about it.

I think that if you click on this link, it will work out the time of the stream in the time zone where your ISP thinks you are (unless you are using a VPN to confuse it).
For those of you who can't stand that level of excitement: as you were.

The results of the survey are in. Others like it are being done for other channels, and it will be interesting to make comparisons. The survey lasted one month and an astonishing 16,635 people filled in the survey.

Much of it confirmed what I already knew - you are almost all men. You are into science, technology, the outdoors, gaming, and education. Interesting was that you are mostly not into travel, which might explain why the travel videos don't do so well.

I see that the age profile of the people who filled in the survey is significantly younger (mostly 18-24) than the age profile of my YouTube audience (mostly 25-44). This could be because my keenest viewers are younger, or perhaps it reflects a possible fact that older people are sick of filling in surveys.

Less than 6% (of the biased sample that responded) minded my sponsorships or thought them inappropriate.

Most of my audience is not rich, and yet an astonishing 64% said that it was interested in buying Lindybeige merchandise. Tat ahoy!

24% of the responders were from the USA, 22% Britain, 8% Germany, 5% Australia, 4% Canada, and a whopping 38% from 'other' which were almost all non-English speaking nations. So, a huge proportion of my audience speaks English as a foreign language. I suspect the facts that I use short words and have clear diction probably help.

43% of you live in suburbs. I'm not sure what to do with that information. Videos about tree-lined avenues?

89% of you identified as 'white'. The people who devised the survey were American. For the rest of the world, this isn't much of an issue.

Actually, I see that 41% of you ARE interested in travel - fewer than half but still a fair few.

32% of those filling in the form described themselves as die-hard fans, and 49% as subscribers who watch a lot of my videos. My thanks go to all who filled in the survey, but perhaps especially to those who are *not* die hard fans.

62% said that they seldom comment or click 'like', and 34% that they fairly often 'engage' in this way.

Overall satisfaction was 8.95 out of 10! By Crikey!

84% were satisfied with the length of my videos. Again, of course, that's 84% of the sample of people who chose to fill in the survey, so it leaves me wondering how many people get put off by long videos.

The lowest satisfaction ratings were for frequency of videos. Alas this does not make it clear whether people want higher a or lower frequency, but I'm guessing higher.

Very few complaints about sound or picture quality - phew!

Thanks to all who participated.

How much of the time do you view my videos as well as listen to them, and how much of the time are you listening to them as to a radio show, while you are looking at something else, such as that mail armour you are making?
