About
Jason Sypher is a NYC bassist who has played with numerous groups all over the world. He is a specialist in folk musics, particularly Irish, Oldtime, Bluegrass and Eastern European music. He has a background in jazz but is primarily self-taught. He has recorded and toured with many well-known artists including Nikitov, Lunasa, Leon Redbone, Susan McKeown, I Draw Slow, among many others. He is currently the bassist and bandleader for Rhiannon Giddens and is touring her latest release Freedom Highway on Nonesuch records. Aside from supporting many great bands from the bass chair he is also recording a solo record where he can share his extended techniques and melodic expression on the double bass.
