Happy Friday RealLifers! This is Ksenia, your Fluency Coach.
This Thursday we recorded a new podcast episode - all about my English journey!
And these are photos of me as a student!
That episode will be released in a couple of weeks, and today I wanted to answer some of the questions from our Fluency Circle students:
Hirohisa:
My question is what Ksenia learned at university. Did you major in English literature or other languages?
I majored in the English language and literature. My second language was German. And we also had the 3rd language, which, to my regret, I failed to learn properly - that was Spanish.
Dan:
How have you overcome something like obstacles in learning English?
That took a long time to stop translating in my head when speaking English. The most important turned out to be the mindset shift - embrace your mistakes, relax, expose yourself to the language as much as possible. And use every opportunity to speak!
Elena:
What was most useful for you from your university study? What is the best course you had in university?
I believe the most useful was understanding that all English learning should be personal. Itβs hard to learn and remember about things that you don't feel connected to. So always try to connect it to your identity, to your interests!
The best, or let's say the most interesting for me was the history of the English language.
Marco:
Have you done any specific exercises, training etc. to work on your pronunciation/ accent?
I drastically improved my pronunciation and picked up the English rhythm by mimicking a lot, and singing songs in English.
Daisy:
Why do you decide to learn English? How did you know RealLife English?
English was my favorite subject at school, I was curious to learn more about culture as well, and I loved English literature!
I learned about RealLife English when I was searching for YouTube videos to work on my conversational, "real-life" English.
Thank you guys for your questions! Wait for more tips and secrets in the upcoming episode!
